Intense...ly Dull

GammaPulsar from , 10th March, 2009

I watched this in the cinema with a few friends. Please, I beg of you, don't go and see this movie. It's only redeeming feature is a shootout in the Guggenheim in New York. Admittedly, it was a fairly good shoot out, but it's conclusion and result are confusing and badly thought out. The ending is appalling and absolutely pointless. In fact, the entire movie is appalling and absolutely pointless and, at points, painfully obvious. I repeat, do NOT pay money to watch this.

The International

Eyesrsore from , 7th March, 2009

At a time when world banking institutions are in freefall, are we to believe that these same people are capable of conducting a worldwide conspiracy? Owen does his best with a predictable and plodding script heavy on dialogue and light on thrills. Despite comparisons to Jason Bourne, the unshaven and mac wearing Owen is closer to Columbo with a gun, than Bourne. The multi locations don’t save this from being consigned to distant memory shortly after the end credits.

Average fare

GaryI from , 14th April, 2009

Very very average. Almost an attempt to see what Clive Owen would have been like as 007 (not good by this standard). Naomi Watts is wasted, the plot is awful and often depends on unbelievable coincidences. It's an OK thriller with some gunplay and one average setpiece, but do not expect too much.

DevilMayCare

I enjoyed it. The plot was unusual yet very believable and the film was well acted, with a good script and it lived up to it's name. Great performance from Clive Owen.

Banker

nosdog from , 18th July, 2009

First rate conspiracy thriller with Clive Owen as a maverick interpol agent, investigating a dodgy european bank involved in financing third world conflicts. Lots of intrigue, a satisfying cold war feel and a brilliantly choreographed shoot-out in the Guggenheim make this a damn good watch.

Wake me up someone

William Brown from Edinburgh, 15th July, 2009

A thriller about global banking and financial corruption? How good does that sound? Pretty crap to be honest and that initial judgement turned out to be true. Drags on for what seems like days and most of it is folk yapping incredibly boring drivel. The few bits of action are well done but don't make up for the tedium of the rest of it. Long before the end you are well past caring about any of it. Better than Horlicks.

No disappointment here

fivetrax from , 10th July, 2009

Usually a trailer hypes up a movie and raises your expectations for more. So many times this fails to materialise but that is not the case with this movie and there's no disappointment here! Fast action and intrigue all the way with the set piece at the Guggenheim being especially spectacular. All lead actors give creditable performances and the plot probably has many comparisons with today's real world. As good as any of the 'Bourne' capers and better than many.
