Over 90 minutes of cut scenes !!! wake me up when they are over ZZZzzz

A Customer from Hersh, 11th June, 2008

This game has over '90' MINUTES OF CUT SCENES !!!! Ughh I could not imagine having to have to sit all through that whilst doing NOTHING, I hope there is a skip button, the trouble with MGS 4 is that it has been around since the PS1 and revamped again and again under various names and all that made it special has now been done in so many other games, I think a lot of people will be disappointed ........

Amazing!!!!!

TroyMc from from Eastbourne, 10th April, 2008

This is to be the finally to the incredible series that is Metal Gear and Metal Gear 4 is no exception to the rule and does not disappoint, new and brilliant features include; - Adaptive camouflage (your camo suit or , OctoCamo, now has the ability to adapt it's self to your surrounding environment e.g. stand next to a wallpapered wall and your camo turns that pattern sweet!) - The formidable CQC of Metal Gear has been improved and has introduced new chokes, hold up techniques ext. - The Solid Eye is a new piece of equipment added to Snakes arsenal (it as any hard core Metal Gear fan knows is there so replace his eye that Ocelot shot out) this Solid Eye Patch scans the battle field in any way with thermal vision, night vision and binoculars. - Interactive environment e.g. you can clime in Dust bins or clime in an oil drum (oil drum replaces the concept of the card board box e.g. get in it walk around, sneak up on enemies and now even roll it at enemies with you inside like a human bowling ball Ober Sweet) - All this along with a huge new amount of weapons, gadgets, environments and enemies Brief story line: Snake’s bionic clock is running out and he has been given one last mission to assassinate Liquid Ocelot will he finish his mission before it to late we will have to wait and see!?

yawn

Juggernaught from , 31st August, 2008

This is a (really rubbish) film, interspersed with a little bit of (admittedly good) gameplay, but I cannot be bothered sitting through the terrible cheesy cut scenes. You can skip these but you miss a lot of the plot you need for the gameplay. avoid unless you enjoy the work of Charles Bronson.

Massively Disappointed

UltimatePlaystation from from London, 16th July, 2008

I thought MGS 4 was massively over-rated. There are far too many cut-scenes which I assume were to keep the hardcore franchise fans happy (I loved MGS 1 - 3 too!), the movement was slow & lethargic as too was the overall stealth game-play. It just all felt rather laborious. When I first turned it on and played the pre-act mission I just wanted to turn it back off - I was so frustrated. I persevered however for another 2 hours expecting it to really get going and it just didn't. I was encouraged to keep going and that I wouldn't be disappointed by the time ACT 2 came around, yet another 4 hours of monotonous, linear and frankly washed out game-play I arrive at ACT 2 awaiting great things. It's safe to say the game picked up, but the damage was done. I was no longer interested in Old Snake & couldn't care whether he lived or died. The graphics were distinctly average, nothing here we haven't seen before - though the cut-scenes were beautiful to watch, which is lucky considering the quantity and length of them! The voice acting and dialogue were just terrible. The actors were so forced and scripted and though Snake was also well over the top - we do know and love this about him. I have been a huge MGS fan in the past, but it's with much sadness I turn my back on this franchise with a heavy heart. I didn't play until the end to find out the conclusion to a series I used to be riveted to, in-fact I just don't care what happens at the end any more. If this was Hideo's dream version of the title then I think he got very lucky with the first titles as they weren't over-complicated and had massive game-play appeal and longevity. I am sure I will get dozens of replies stating how wrong I am, but before you do all tell me I am wrong, remember this is my opinion and if you strip the game back to the essentials - does it really tick all the boxes? 'Best Game Ever' I've seen that bold statement on more than one person's MSN sub status or PSN ID comment, however I think this game has a long-way to go to beat the original title let alone contend in the ring as a world-beater. One of the finest gaming experiences ever

Rik95 from from Salford Quays, 20th June, 2008

Having played all but MGS3 I was a little wary that I may have missed a large portion of the story, so i watched several 'retrospective' videos over at gametrailers.com to try and catch up with the story i'd missed. If you haven't played any metal gear games, missed a few or just fancy refreshing the story (believe me, it's quite deep) they are excellent vids and provide the full backstory, highly recommended! Going into the game with a knowlegde of the story, and knowing snake's current circumstances (rapid aging, on the tail of liquid etc) i was expecting a lot - and I got it. The story is like that of a Hollywood blockbuster and the production values are obviously astronomical. Although the cutscenes may be a little long for the casual gamer (one at about half way through the game is approx 60 mins long!) anyone who enjoys an amazing story will love them. To match this, the graphics are mind blowing - the best this console generation by a long shot. It will be a while before they are matched o the same level. From a gameplay perspective, the game plays much like the previous titles, only better. The inventory system is improved, Drebin's weapon shop opens many new doors and allows weapon modification. This proves is a breeze and there are tons of possible combinations which should keep fans interested. The octocam suit allows snake to actively camoflage into his surrounding and makes for some funny easter eggs (look out for the statues early on!) There is enough in this game to keep any gamer entertained even on a 2nd or 3rd play through. There isn't enough space here to explain everythign about the game, and i really have nothign at all bad to say about it. It's been 20 years in the making and snake's final mission proves to be one of the most engrossing, exciting, tense and, surprisingly emotional games ever. This really is a clash between a gaming and cinema experience. In a nutshell, MGS4 is one of the most polished, engrossing, finest gaming experiences ever. If you own a PS3, do yourself a favour and play this game. Highly, highly recommended.

Good graphics disapointment

A Customer from London, 15th June, 2008

The graphics on Metal gear solid is one of the best iv seen on The playstacion 3 is shows Ps3 Performance or '' 4 d '' graphics they have combined human looks to the game it looks like watching a movie basicly the game look like '' real people '' on cut sceans and game graphics are very good it seems to be a very long game however the disavantages are you have to PAY to play online and that upsets me a little it will take a while to complete this game however i did get bored of it after the first 30 minutes of gameplay however it a good game and storymode so far is okay.
