Newb Review - Uncharted

Joefeesh from , 15th November, 2009

Extract from www.newbreview.com: Graphics: 5/5 Quite simply the benchmark against which all PS3 games should be judged. Beautiful colours, vividly rendered with superb animation. Sound: 5/5 A superb audio track with some of the best voice acting I’ve heard in a game as well as incredibly clear incidental audio. Gameplay: 4/5 The basic gameplay is done particularly well with just a few minor gripes to detract. Longevity: 3/5 This is where the game suffers. As a single player only experience, and with 60 treasures to find in the game, once you’ve played it a couple of times, there’s not a lot to bring you back. Overall: 4/5 Absolutely one of the must buy games for the system. A few small points tarnish an otherwise magnificent game.

EXCELLENT RENTAL TITLE

MarcKato from , 14th November, 2009

I rented this after looking for the highest rated PS3 titles on games review sites. This game has had it praises sung very highly so I decided to check it out before renting the sequel which is supposed to be even better. I can understand why it was given such accolade as it was an early release in the PS3's history and better games gave been released since, This is a great rental title and I enjoyed every minute of it. I completed it in around 8/10 hours on Normal and decided to send it back. I could have played it more and unlocked more stuff I suppose but I want to see what Uncharted 2 is like. I highly recommend anyone have a play on this. Hopefully Uncharted 2 will come through the post soon.

Cracking!

qotas from , 30th October, 2009

This game is amazing. The visuals are gorgeous, especially the water where alot of nice attention to detail has been paid. The storyline is very good as is the gameplay. The characters all fit into the story well and give it added depth. The game is almost perfect in fact! I do have one little niggle with it in the fact that the control system can sometimes send you to the wrong piece of cover which on the harder difficulties guarantees instant death but other than that the game is outstanding in every aspect. I definitely recommend renting it and trying it on one of the harder difficulties to get the most out of it, just can't wait to try the sequel now :)

One of the best games on PS3

A Customer from Manchester, England, 30th September, 2009

Incredible game, amazing graphics but more importantly fun gameplay. The story is immersive and you actually care about the characters (helped by some excellent voice acting.) The cutscenes are filmed with actors wearing motion-capture suits! That tells you all you need to know about this game, the attention to detail is stunning. Easily top 5 games on PS3 and matches anything the Xbox 360 has to offer, if you arent sure whether to get a PS3, play this and Resistance: Fall of Man 2 andI guarantee you'll have more fun than you could anywhere else.

Roll On Uncharted 2!

stevieguil from from Salford, 16th September, 2009

Despite reading solid reviews, the concept of Uncharted just looked very stale (treasure hunting, pirates etc). In addition, every Sony game since Motorstorm has been a huge waste of time. Therefore, I was convinced Id be disappointed with this. However, Uncharted turned out quite the opposite and is without doubt the best PS3 exclusive so far. The characters turn out to be quite likeable (in particular Drake, far from the clichés they first appear as). The graphics are another high point, each section is incredibly detailed. Naughty Dog has done very well to provide variety to a game set on just one island, a Nazi U Boat Drake encounters early on being one of the most memorable. Gears of War has obviously been a major influence on this game. Even the way enemies spill blood is reminiscent of Gears. By far the best element borrowed is the cover system, which works incredibly well here. As do the jumping sections, familiar to anyone who has played Prince of Persia. Other games that came to mind when playing Uncharted were Resident Evil 4, Tomb Raider and Far Cry. Where Uncharted succeeds with this cheeky plagiarism is that it takes the finer elements from these games and combines them to create an extremely enjoyable game. Although nothing about it feels particularly new, it feels refined to the point where it's almost perfect. One final point that made me admire this game was how it played out. The ending doesnt finish on a cliff-hanger and neither does it set up a sequel. Uncharted actually has an ending, which seems like a small point, but can be infuriating. Assassins Creed, Ratchet & Clank and countless others please take note.

Best value game on PS3

TEZA99 from , 26th August, 2009

This game in my eyes is without doubt the best value for money game on the PS3. The graphics are awesome, the atmosphere out of this world and everything else just fits in beautifully. If you think you'd like an adventure game with a twist of first perspective shooter, a few puzzles and a terrific storyline to boot. Then this is THE GAME for you. Only flaw is the game's shortness, but if you take your time and collect everything then it wont be short. Add to the fact that finishing the game on hard unlocks an even harder setting. At this stage you should have unlocked a few bonuses that will help you through the harder setting. Sit back relax and enjoy this wonderful creation .... quick before 2 is out!!!

If you enjoy jabbing yourself in the face with a knitting needle, go for it.

circusmaximus from , 3rd August, 2009

I find it offensive that game developers think I'm going to find some kind of enjoyment out of being killed over and over and over and over and over and over again. I don't appreciate having to kill 74 people shooting at me (kindly note, there is one of me), only to be rewarded by another 74 people shooting at me. Games are meant to be enjoyable. This isn't enjoyable. It just makes me annoyed. Thank f*** I didn't pay forty quid to feel this way. I couldn't care less how pretty the scenery is if I'm having the p*** taken out of me.

Finally a reason to keep my ps3!

weirdos from , 4th July, 2009

I bought a ps3 a couple of months ago and have barely played it. I had lost interest of playing little big planet and mgs 4 and i really thought that was all the ps3 had to offer. I tried resistance 1 and 2 both not to my liking and warhawk crap and motorstorm poor and gran turismo boring, then i play this and FINALLY! the ps3 has a game that i cant help but play and exclusively on the platform. The story is far-fetched but it is done very well with very good voice acting. The gameplay is top notch with a kinda assasins creed mixed along the lines of splinter cell with lots of action. The trophies on this game should be an example of the way they should work with all games, trophies that are achieved through playing the games story. I have preordered uncharted 2 now even though i still havent completed this one yet!
