VERT GOOD FILM GREAT YOUNG ACTORS, A BIT STRANGE IN PARTS
Great, if not widely seen movie...

In the couple of years after 'Billy Elliot', Jamie Bell slowly and quietly established himself as more than a flash-in-the-pan character actor. This is a prime example of this as Bell takes on the lead role as the elder of two brothers living with their father, well below the poverty line in the deepest south. Evil Uncle (Josh Lucas) arrives looking for some presumably valuable family artifacts, and the boys flee for their lives. Touching, frightening and engaging throughout, this is well worth a watch.

Slow paced but compelling viewing all the same. It was a very unusual film just following the troubled life of 2 youngsters and how things turn for the worst when their uncle shows up. Quirky but enjoyable.

Fast-forward

Jamie Bell aside who does a good job in spite of the fact that to my ears at least changed his accent several times in the film from somewhere in California to East Coast back to Deep South!) this is one to watch on fast-forward especially from about 30 mins in. You will still follow the plot but not be subjected to some of the most tedious dialogue ever written!

Another fine performance from Jamie Bell who has a knack of spotting excellent, quirky scripts. Undertow is well acted by a highly believable cast who seem to take on the personas of their characters very well.

Its an ok film but bit slow through out. Great views but lacking something to keep you interested.Good acting , shame the film could of been alot better than it was.
Slow and intense

I seem to think I have seen this before but I attempted to watch it again and found it a bit dull. Jamie Bell who was Billy Elliot does a good moody teenager although he isn't that attractive really as he grows up. The film is a bit slow and intense. I didn't watch it a second time when I realised I had already seen it.
Expected something a lot better

Having read in paper reviews that this was a class film - thought it would be. Unfortunately - all the drama occurs in the first hour - and after that there are just rather weak moments of tension interspersed with tedious dialogue. Yes the film is well put together - but thereis little suspense and the plot gets thinner by the minute. The ending when it comes is so melodramatic and the epilogue is so predictable. Could have been a real nail-biter - but doesn't live up to it.
