GREAT STORY, OKAY BOND

When Sean Connery decided to leave the role of 007: James Bond for after ' You Only Live Twice' it was up to producers Harry Saltzman & Albert R. ' Cubby' Broccoli to find a decent replacement. no doubt this film would have been better if Connery had been Bond. but Australian model George Lazenby does his best with the role and pulls off the emotional scenes very sensitively but it's being brutal Bond which isn't Lazeby's strong point.
Telly Savalas is not right for Blofeld with his American accent and it would have been cool if Donald Pleasance stayed on{he could show 'size matters not'like an evil version of Yoda he could tear strips off James Bond who could be the ' Bondian' equivelant of Count Dooku - Good Version}. but Kojack actor Telly Savalas is still really good in the role. Diane Rigg isn't a bad actress and manages to pull off the role but her character Tracy Di Vicenzo isn't very likable in Rigg's performance, sadly. this does have the best storyline of all the movies with a clinic based on an ice mountain where some pretty girls given the label ' The Angels Of Death' are brainwashed into doing evil things for Blofeld's master plan. this film has a ' From Russia With Love' Rosa Klebb in the character of Irma Bunt. agent Wayne is a pretty cool character idea but dosen't get enough screentime and he isn't very well developed. nor is the whole undercover name ' Sir Hilary Bray' which could have been expanded to make the storyline more complex. but their still are some thrilling moments in the film and toward the end we start to see how great this film is. Bond nearly loses his ' License To Kill' from M{Bernard Lee} if it wasn't for Miss Moneypenny{Lois Maxwell} and the film has genuine soul missing from Bond films like ' Diamonds Are Forever' which although good with some great scenes could have been much better. so all rise for this classic Bond film ' On Her Majesty's Secret Service' it should definately be seen!

No gadgets and all action... only 28 years too early

Right. I'll say this right away. Until possible the latest movie, this is the best Bond movie by far. 1. It's actually got a plot 2. Bond doesn't do everything with a laser biro etc etc. 3. He's actually engaged in some actual spy work! 4. Is that an emotion! Holy moly 5. He's not superman in a fight. As we all know, Mrs Bond isn't expected in a sequel. but if you need any better example that poor old George Lazenby was the better actor; when Sean Connery acts out his revenge on Blofelt in the very next film (Diamonds are Forever), he does so with all the pathos and of a man who's just ordered a pizza and missed out on a free topping.

A dark and untypical Bond film

The real drawback of this film is, of course, George Lazenby. It's the reason why I can't give this film 5 stars although to be fair, he really isn't so bad. He's a passable Bond but can you imagine what OHMSS would have been like had Connery played it? It would, hands-down, have been the best Bond movie ever. What didn't it have going for it? It had a gritty story with a dark ending. It got back to the roots of the original Ian Fleming character, ie a man who solves problems with his wits and ruthlessness and not infantile gadgets. As if that wasn't enough, the music was killer - my favorite of all the Bond soundtracks. Likewise for the girl, another favorite. Who could possibly compete with the incomparable Diana Rigg in the Bond girl canon? All these elements combined make it a somewhat uncharacteristic Bond film and far richer for it. Even the quips are far less muted than a regular Bond outing. And finally Telly Savalas - he really was the original Dr Evil, wasn't he?

Another good Bond film, But I think George Lazenby was not as good as Roger Moore or Sean Connery,But overall an interesting film.

Big Fry no Crunchie

Within twenty minutes my 20yr old son and I were yawning in complete boredom for something to happen. Nothing of any Bond-like consequence does. Perhaps this is why the producers included some cameo teasers of the previous outstanding Bond films in the opening credits, Diana Rigg is surprisingly unengaging and George Lazenby (Big Fry) should have stuck to chocolate advertising but look out for an early Joanna Lumley as 'one of the girls' and the Satchmo song is a winner.

I love me Bond films - watch em all like I have!!!

Arguably this is the best Bond film....why? well its a true spy film, it has a great plot with loads of twists and turns, it is a classic Bond story, few gadgets and those that are used are v practical not stupid childish things like laser watches , invisible cars etc. You maybe put off by Lazenby, and yes he is not a thespian but he could have gone on to do wonderful things with the character. If you read he couldn't act then watch the last sad scene, he really nails it. I have to admit this is my favouriute Bond movie and if you look at casino Royale for example you will see 'On Her Majestys...' is in that style of 30 years ago. Watch this with an open mind, forget the Roger Moore/Pierce Brosnan additions and you may find a very enjoyable, action packed, spy thriller .

one of the best bond films ever !!! my boyfriend a real bond fan and he says besides casino royale it the best bond film its just a pity Sean Connery wasnt bond then he would say it was the best bond film he seen to date but he says Dainel Craig is a brilliant bond second only to Connery ohmss has the best story line in any bond film though i thought that George Lazenby was a good bond considering he only played him once i think he aleast deserved one more outing as the worlds most famous spy but the rest of cast where brilliant over all a great movie its just a pity that most people just compaire Lazenby to Connery with isnt fair because most people see connery as the first and best bond witch is something that Dainel Craig and any other actor who plays bond will have to face

James Bond and the Essence of the 60's Captured....

This is a 'quintessential' bond movie that captures the is-ness of 60's cinema at the end of arguably one of the most important decades in cinematic history. George Lazenby is on par with Connery and watching this one can only lament that, due to his agents persistence, he did not continue as our 007. It has Great Britain right through it as a stick of Blackpool rock. Diana Rigg is, as expected, classy, emancipated and gorgeous with a capital 'G'. Savalas is truly memorable in what I consider the best interpretation of Blowfelds' incarnations.Featuring high octane action, a bevvy of beauties, one of the best Bond soundtracks and psychedelically hung-over visuals it is, without doubt, the most seriously underrated of Bonds escapades. After witnessing the tepid 'Quantum of Solace' the people behind the new Bond franchise should study this and take heed on how a Bond film needs to be and what vital ingredients are needed for a triumph rather than a slight tragedy!
