I made a bad choice. The film was too gory for me to enjoy but it does show the violence of war. My mistake

If you are extremely bored and have given up self harming yourself then watch 1066 it will finish you off. Pure dirge

I was expecting something really interesting and gripping, but switched it off half way through. Great if you like this sort of thing but not for me.

didn't realise that this was not a film but a 2 part series by channel 4, however was interesting and factual to watch
Dreadful: Don`t waste your time

This is truly dreadful. Terrible acting, badly written. The battle secenes are pathetic. Don`t waste your time with this nonsense unless you suffer with insomnia and are looking for something to help you sleep.

Pretty unimpressive from the start. Bad acting made me switch off 20 mins into the film
In two minds

It's always difficult to watch a dramatised documentary, particularly when everybody in the country knows the final outcome. The production team had to find a twist and a sort of new approach and in that, they sort of succeeded. Using interpretations of the Bayeaux Tapestry as the timeline integrated with some of the written records of the time, they end up portraying the French as we've come to expect and the English as a slightly naive bunch of farmers some of whom have weapons. What was not so good? The directing/acting, the accents and the props and sets. Clearly on a low budget, many of the props seemed to have come straight out of the Screwfix Clearance catalogue. The main set a thatched wattle and daub village which (and I think it's fair to say this isn't a spoiler) gets torched doesn't burn completely - which is a bit not going to happen. A special mention has to be made of the costumes. All finely tailored with 21st Century materials. Not a hand stitch in sight. The fight scenes, well yes they happen, but they go on for too long. Having said all of that, do you actually know anything more after watching the film than you might have before. Well perhaps one thing on the end credits, but was it worth sitting through to find it out? Not in my opinion.

I really enjoyed this film, it was a fantastic recreation of one of the most important years in English history. Definitely one to see.
