When a great combination of a captivating, realistic storyline and superb acting, the result is likely to be impressive. Gran Turino is just that: impressive. I had been wanting to see the film for some time; I managed to miss seeing it in the cinema. Instead I rented the DVD, and at 00:00 last night I sat down and watched it. (Normally at this time it takes a lot for me to stay up and watch a film, but in this case, there was little chance I was going to turn it off). From start to finish this film was great and kept you watching. I have read one or two negative reviews for Gran Turino, and respect some of what people have said, but in my opinion, even if Clint does come across as a composite of some of his past characters, so what? To me, and I am from England watching a film around suburban America, Eastwood portraited the classic American war veteran extremely well. His constant squint, mumbling and (what somehow seemed appropriatly over-the-top) use of racist war slang were great character traits. And how his character develops throughout the film is again a credit to the very well written screenplay. So I have given it five stars, which is uncommon for me to give a film, but just as the the 5th star states 'I love it', I really did think was an exceptional film - entertaining, humerous, but also thrilling and emotional. This is definately one to buy.
