Lemon Tree

A Customer from Taunton, 25th October, 2009

An elegant film, illustrating the on-going hostilities between Palestinians and Israelis living as fragile neighbours in Gaza. A simple but true story of how a powerless widow outwits the might of the Israeli government with the help of the media in her bid to defend her property and her individual rights.

Sums up the tragedy of the Israeli-Palestinian situation in a vividly portrayed, unsentimentalised drama of one woman's fight to save her orchard of lemon trees.

A poetic and illuminating film that highlights the absurd cruelties of the Israeli/Palestine conflict. Wonderful acting.

A beautiful and simple fable

Noseyjoe from , 10th September, 2009

Well, not so much a fable as a tale of everyday hardship on the West Bank. Although an Israeli film this is arguably pro (or at least very sympathetic) to the plight of the Palestineans. On the other hand it shows how, at a human level, ordinary Israelis connect with those whose lives 'security precautions' ruin. It is beautifully made, with a mesmerising central performance by the owner of the lemon grove that is under threat. Her serene beauty marks her out from the anger and hostility all around her, and this is superbly enhanced by the lack of intrusive music. When you have performances this good and emotions this sincere, silence is the only soundtrack

International lemon politics

A Customer from Stratford-upon-Avon, 6th September, 2009

Excellent film portraying local friction between Palestinian widow and Israeli powers, and how the simple matter of the future of the delightful lemon grove takes on international proportions. Sensitively explored.

Gentle, startling, honest and sad. I loved this film, I would like to see more stories about this area. I was very interested in a story that spans both communities and made so beautifully. I felt as tho I was there. I could smell the orchard and the heat.
