Dog....

OttoParts from , 3rd March, 2009

My excuse for having seen this film last night would be that I got free tickets. But in truth, I was kind of looking forward to it. I love the talent - Wilson, Annistion, Arkin and Kathleen Turner. But what I saw was a banal, dramaless, confusing, over-long, over-sentimental waste of film stock which begs the question - how did this script ever get made!? The bad-dog andrex advert montages wear thin almost immediately even for any dog lovers watching. And without those montages there isn't reallly a film or story. Wilson's character sort of, kind of, half moans about being half contented with his (idyllic) life. The film consistently hits the wrong tone and doesn't know whether it wants to be a family drama or a no-brained comedy. My suggestion to potential viewers would be to make sure brain and familly stay far away from this film. There are a few moments of brief redemption brought about by the reliable delivery of the afore-mentioned stars. But why in the name of Lassie are they wasting their talent on this big pile of doo-doo???

Saddest Film Ever

pinkylulu from , 10th March, 2009

I also had free tickets and thought this film would be a light hearted, rom-com film. Boy was I wrong! I know it sounds dramatic but I honestly do not think I can ever see this movie again as it was just too sad. When I read the book, I cried but in this movie I was bawling real tears that just would not stop flowing. I also thought about my pets and how people have to make difficult decisions. Im genuinely not emotional but this film hit all my emotional buttons and made me create a tidal wave of emotion. Watch this film, enjoy this film, but make sure you pack lots of tissues.

Hugely Disappointing. The Book Was So Much Better.

Katrina from , 13th March, 2009

A hyped up movie, which is a let down when you see it. if you've seen the trailers, then you've seen all the best bits. I felt a lot of it was edited out to fit within the film time scale (there were hardly any scenes of when Marley was a puppy for instance), and there was not enough humour in it, like there was in the book. The only funny parts were the parts advertised in the trailers, which I'd already seen. The story begins with young newly weds Josh & Jen Grogan who are just starting their married life together. Jen has a step by step plan to their lives, you get a career, get married, you have children, and so on. Unfortunately not all goes to plan, and they end up getting a happy, but naughty puppy who they name Marley, and so the story goes.... And remember, this is the LIFE story of Marley - all the adults in the audience had tears in their eyes by the end of the film. As a result I maybe should warn you, it may upset younger children who have not yet experienced pet bereavement. On the other hand you may think this will help them, if you have elderly pets that don't have much time left. If you want films about dogs the best ones are still K-9, K9-11, K-9 P.I, Beethoven, Beethoven's 2nd, Eight Below, Snow Dogs, Homeward Bound, Homeward Bound 2.

Poor, very Paw

Maynard from , 25th March, 2009

What a total let down!!!! So much was not taken from the book, why do films get made from books when they are so cut and altered? Too much time is devoted to the family and not enough to the dog, afterall the book is mainly about Marley and his effects. The ending is a tear jerker, as in the book, so if you watch the film take a box of tissues with you. In all a great disappointment and a missed opportunity.

Marley & Me

KPTX from , 15th March, 2009

If you love dogs, you will love this film. The adventures of a growing puppy will make you laugh, cringe, cry and think of all the dogs that you know. Marley is extremely cute and adorable! This is a film for all ages, from little kids to very old ones! Enjoy it. :)

Didn't stop laughing!

A Customer from Chepstow, 19th March, 2009

Whoever says this film is bad obviously has no sense of humour. It's a light hearted film with some fantastic slapstick comedy moments, which had me laughing long after the scene had passed. Aniston and Wilson make a great team but the dog steals the show without a doubt. The ending was a real tear jerker with several people leaving the cinema bleary eyed and teary but everyone saying what a good film it was. I haven't read the book but i definately give the film top marks!

Pointless and a waste of time to watch!

A Customer from SW London, 3rd April, 2009

I walked out of the cinema just before the end as I couldn't take any more of this awful film. It wasn't just pointless, but amazingly boring.I think the film builds up for the inevitable sobbing end when the dog's life comes to an end due to old age. We've all had dogs and dogs that have died, so I am truly baffled why Marley and me was such a hyped success. I'm a dog lover, but I just don't get it! I mean the dog was a nuisance, yet he was loved, and THAT makes for a bestseller? How odd. I really didn't like this film because for me it offered me nothing except an hour and a half of my life I will never get back!
