Best environmental film in decades

Christiaan from , 17th February, 2008

Hands down the best environmental film I've seen. DiCaprio does a stellar job of covering a huge range of topics (the only one missing in my opinion is a discussion on nuclear power). Manages to convey the urgency facing us while offering some truly inspirational ways of looking at our current situation. If I could make films and I did a documentary on the planet and our current situation, this is probably what I'd like it to turn out like.

Edit, 18 Oct, 2008: I find the review below titled 'Utter Rubbish' puzzling, and especially so that 5 people have found it helpful. The reviewer says 'Di Caprio is rubbish - he has clearly been hired to front this, is in it for about 15 mins max and has no interest or insight into his subject matter whatsoever.' Doesn't the reviewer realise that DiCaprio is not just the narrator but one of three who wrote the film?

Utter Rubbish

A Customer from UK, 27th September, 2008

I cannot believe that ANYONE in their right mind sat through this rubbish and actually enjoyed it, or for that matter gained any factual insight into the Worlds environmental problems from it. It is so bad its difficult to know where to begin. For a start Di Caprio is rubbish - he has clearly been hired to front this, is in it for about 15 mins max and has no interest or insight into his subject matter whatsoever. Basically this is just clip after monotonous clip of statement after meaningless statement, simply the opinions of some of Americas Scientific community, most of whom probably drive to work every day in their $100,000 Lexus. Its like watching a verbatim version of someones Holiday Snaps, no meaningful information is imparted via this documentary in any way whatsoever. If you want to watch a decent environmental documetary with some actual evidence, statistics and real ideas in it I suggest you watch Gores version which we thought was great. As for Di Caprio and his bunch of nerds, the best thing they could do for the World would be to reduce their CO2 emissions by shutting up. I cannot stress how bad this really is.

Gawd almighty

Must have clicked this one by mistake actually! Didn't get passed the beginning, too depressing. We all know about global warming but I don't need to see a bunch of US patriots harp on about it. We are all forced into this recycling rubbish that seems futile, we all know that recycled glass get dumped in Japan or the Ukraine. Now on the other hand watch the documentary Earth - definately more interesting.

A great example of an environmental documentary

klipkat from , 14th January, 2010

This documentary I found to be really informative and not just another one telling you that humans have ruined the earth and maybe we should think of some solution. The fact it has Scientists, Authors, Religious figures, Government workers and many others, all giving their opinions and ideas on the subject was really interesting. There were a lot of numbers and terms explained throughout the dvd, but I didn't feel that they were difficult for people to understand, just in large quantities because that is simply how many factors are relevant in environmental issues. It was made up of some thought provoking images at the start, summaried issues by Decaprio, and many answers given by relevant important figures. It has shots of some very beautiful natural landscapes by and and sky. There is also a section on possible solutions which I found to be one of the reasons for this DVD standing out against over environmental documentaries. It may have seemed like it was taking a while to get round to ideas and positives, but still great to watch one not all doom and gloom! Well worth watching, I played it several times.

misleading trailer

maibenrai from from Malvern, 14th April, 2009

trailer was much more exciting than the film. It was a serious documentary about climate change but it failed to win the interest of my teenage children as the trailer had indicated it might.

11th hour

More trying to make us feel guilty about living, no doubt we pollute the planet badly and kill other species cutting down forrests etc and we do need to change our ways but i cant understand this co2 nonsence. Maybe we're not the only planet in the universe experiencing climate change, maybe our everchanging position in the universe and position in realation to the sun plays a part, i know that sounds daft but there's signs of it and i dont think its little green men in suv ufo's polluting thats doing it. Its just the latest scam to tax us all more and more.We never got over the mini ice age by pumping co2 into the air the planet warmed up of its own accord. There isn't a scrap of evidence co2 is to blame. My understanding is the sea produces far more co2 the humans do. More co2 to an extent make plants etc grow faster and bigger and needing even more co2 to breathe. I dont think Leonardo Di caprio and co know the exact causes either so i dont know why the think they can tell us
