poor monsters

Sezzle from , 11th December, 2009

What a melancholic film. Poor Max couldn't even invent happiness in his wildest dreams. This should come with a warning; not to be watched after a bad day at the office as it leaves you on a bit of a downer. On the upside though the monsters are incredibly likable and you just want to hug them to make everything better.

Dark, dull and awful

Henders from , 20th March, 2010

Sorry, saw this at the cinema with three children (11, 8 & 4) and we all thought it was awful (including the four adults). Having loved the book I so wanted to like it, but it was terrible. It's depressing, confusing for children, dark (literally & metaphorically) and just not the Children's 'romp' we expected. There was so much opportunity to take a very simple & short children's book and make a good film, but you need good writing. Sadly this film didn't have good writing.

Left the cinema half way through the film for the first time ever! My child was bored and so was I.

Subtle, touching and deep

Lorrylu from , 31st December, 2009

Firstly, I felt that this is more of an adult's film than a children's film. That is not to say that children will not find something in this but I feel this is a deep and subtle film. It was truly touching and I found myself welling up more than once. The characters are not the usual black and white goodies or baddies, but individuals with qualities that make them more true to life! It is not an action packed film where a huge amount of different things happen, but it concentrates (to its merit) on the interactions between the characters. I thoughouhly recommend seeing this film.

Wild things

A Customer from Monmouth, 29th December, 2009

There aren't many films that put me to sleep, but this was one of them. The animals are fantastic but otherwise a very lacklustre film.
