Intense...ly Dull

GammaPulsar from , 10th March, 2009

I watched this in the cinema with a few friends. Please, I beg of you, don't go and see this movie. It's only redeeming feature is a shootout in the Guggenheim in New York. Admittedly, it was a fairly good shoot out, but it's conclusion and result are confusing and badly thought out. The ending is appalling and absolutely pointless. In fact, the entire movie is appalling and absolutely pointless and, at points, painfully obvious. I repeat, do NOT pay money to watch this.

The International

At a time when world banking institutions are in freefall, are we to believe that these same people are capable of conducting a worldwide conspiracy? Owen does his best with a predictable and plodding script heavy on dialogue and light on thrills. Despite comparisons to Jason Bourne, the unshaven and mac wearing Owen is closer to Columbo with a gun, than Bourne. The multi locations don’t save this from being consigned to distant memory shortly after the end credits.

Average fare

Very very average. Almost an attempt to see what Clive Owen would have been like as 007 (not good by this standard). Naomi Watts is wasted, the plot is awful and often depends on unbelievable coincidences. It's an OK thriller with some gunplay and one average setpiece, but do not expect too much.

DevilMayCare

I enjoyed it. The plot was unusual yet very believable and the film was well acted, with a good script and it lived up to it's name. Great performance from Clive Owen.
