Quite disturbing yet not as good as it could have been

This movie did disturb me - the story are about a really disturbing issue. Most of the viewers complain the movie had a very bad pace, to few twist turns. I both agreed and disagreed here, yes when watching the movie you know who's 'dunnit' way to early but I loved the pace. In my eyes they really made time to make you loath the bad guys and feel repulsed by the idea what they did to those poor girls. Richard gere was holding back a little too much, but I often find he's perfect for these roles. Maybe he did not put of a good performance, but he was just made for the role. Claire Danes didn't impress me in this movie. You kind of get the idea they used her for eye candy above everything else. The first 80 minutes of the movie were quite decent in my eyes but the last 20 minutes were a bit of a disappointment. They seemed to be a bit over the top. Still I wouldn't liked missed it !!!

2.5 stars actually

For the true cinephiles amongst us, a warning: this rental DVD has been cropped from 2.35:1 to 16:9 for some reason. Some scenes get away with it, but some key dialogue scenes are shot with the characters framed extreme camera left and right, and it's a total distraction. Fair enough TV broadcasts catering for the average audience who couldn't care less how carefully the director and DoP framed each and every shot, but on DVD format there is no excuse. As for the film itself: yeah, it's a 2.5. There's nothing new here, and it's peppered by those annoying supposedly-trendy post-production camera jitters directors hoy in to keep the audience 'on edge'. Not that it doesn't work as a fairly mindless thriller mind you, but surely this sort of subject matter deserves better treatment.

And interesting offering and one of Richard Gere's better performances as he turns up as over zealous public protection officer Errol Babbage who investigates and keeps tabs on registered sex offenders.A month away from retiring he is asked to train Allison Lowry (Claire Danes) but is rude and initially hostile as he turns his anger on to her . Forced into retirement by his bosses who see his methods as heavy handed and unorthadox he sees Allison as a thorn in his side , especially as 17 year old Harriet Wells ( Kristina Sisco) goes missing and he is convinced he knows who may have snatched her and Allison is keen to play things by the book. Gere has certainly improved with age an he gives a believable performance as the wordly wise Babbage and Danes gives some solid support as the two officers are forced to enter the seedy underworld of sexual deviancy and peversion to try and catch the perpetrators of the kidnap and find harriet before it's too late. Not for the easily offended among us but an hypnotic and interesting watch that's something a little different from the usual thriller

Good characters, movie and story line!

This is about a guy that is due to retire when a new lady comes on the scene who will be his replacement and they have to work together for a few weeks before he leaves. She is new and has her own ideas of how things should be done.....but Richard Gere's character has dealt with these people for a very long time and knows how they work and how to reach out to them.. Good movie seeing how her character changes throughout and good story line about a young girl going missing.......could it be one of the people that Richard Gere has to keep track of or someone completely different? Guess you will have to watch it to find out :)
