Fairy tale

A Customer from Cosy from Kent, 28th November, 2007

If you like fairy tales then this will appeal. A modern day Oliver Twist, baby given away at birth after spending 11 years in a childrens home runs away, following the music in his head. My 10 year old enjoyed it, I thought it was ok, nice ending if unbelievable, but then it is a fairy tale. I do like Rhys Meyers generally but not right for this part, accent a bit dodgy. Keri Russell was very wooden and spent most of the time staring into space.

August Rush - Tear jerker! Settle down on the settee with a drink and chocolate.

A Customer from Wales, 1st April, 2008

A ‘lovely’ film, nicely shot, and produced; with the right level of sentimentality. It cannot be other than predictable, but having said that, it takes you on an interesting journey and produces the right level of ‘lumps in your throat’ to keep you engaged. The performances (all but Robin Williams) are convincing, and the lead Freddie Highmore, as the young music prodigy, delivers a sparkling performance. Good clean family entertainment, with some pauses, but all in all worth viewing for the emotion it portrays alone.

Rush to see this movie

A Customer from Dunfermline, 21st March, 2008

The story of a young boys journey to find his parents by following the music. An unbelievable but still moving modern fairytale. Great performances throughout, a wonderful soundtrack. I would recommend this film.

Contrived piffle

CornyPop from , 3rd August, 2008

The viewer is expected to believe a cart load of coincidences and impossibilities. Loosely based on Oliver Twist with the surprising but wasted talent of Robin Williams as the Fagin-like character. The best thing about this film is that it is only 1 hour 45 mins long; the worst thing about this film is that it is 1 hour 45 minutes long.
