Absolutely Loved It!

buzzgav from from London, 23rd January, 2008

I had read all the bad reviews on the internet but thought i'd see it anyway and i'm really glad i did - then i can form my own opinion! The only bad point is the acting - yeah, it's a bit wooden and predictable but hey! I felt the storyline picked all the best bits from the Aliens/Predator films and attempted to recycle them - although it wasn't done really well, it was done well enough to keep your attention throughout the whole film. There was enough action from both the Aliens and Predators and was impressive. I do think this is for die-hard fans of the Aliens/Predator films but give it a go and enjoy it for the action/sci-fi flick it is!

shambles

A Customer from Edinburgh, 18th January, 2008

I read all the bad reviews from the states, but as a fan you have to see these films. Unfortunately the bad reviews are all correct. This is a mixed up shambles of a film, it jumps about from one scene to the next not knowing what story if any it is trying to tell. The whole Predator v Alien thing just does not work, another stand alone Predator film would have been a smarter idea. I would suggest you just wait for the dvd if you have to see it.

ALIENS VS PREDATOR:REQUIEM

JonnyDay from , 25th January, 2008

I won't tell you too much but in this film the predator is like the one in 1 & 2 - sounds and imagery ripped straight out of the originals, brilliant, the aliens are james cameron's aliens hardly any CGI and sound effects are from the original aliens. The music is awesome as well, every theme from all the franchise is in there at some point. The negative, this is no where near as good as arnie's, the human characters just don't cut it, there's no dutch or hudson to root for, no memorable patter like 'fall in situation position get karnov on de hook' and of course no sign of jim hopper, but i would put it on par with predator 2 which if you consider how crap the last two alien films have been thats not bad. The gore and violence is back and the big baddie's breeding methods are horrific.

The brothers strauss who directed the new avp film said they were gonna make a much better film than avp pt 1 and it would please fans again of both franchises..yawn..it was so obvious from the outset this was gonna be mediocre at best and it was!! I though AVP 1 was ok..not nearly as bad as some suggested it was but certainly no masterpiece and not as best as the best aliens and predator movies seperately..it was a good actioner with litle else to recommend and had the always watchable lance henrikson too. This however has a bunch of mtv actors and some of the worse editing and lighting work i've seen in a film!! Trust me you cannot see a thing that goes on in this film!!..ok so its set at night fair enogh but when the action scenes start the editing is so frantic and the lighting so dark, the scenes lose any cohesion and you miss half of what was filmed. The brothers strauss should stick to sfx and stay away from directing. I hope this is the last avp film..i can't see much of a future for aliens as all the mystery and scares were eliminated eons ago but i still believe a kick ass predator film can be made given the right script and director..here's hoping?

top film

muggs from , 1st November, 2009

At the end of the first avp we see the birth of the pred-alien hybrid and thats were this film starts .Its born and the predator ship crashes back to earth . We then have the blind luck that it crashes in a hick town in the middle of knowhere , the pred-alien and some face huggers escape the ship and multiply. The predator ship sends a signal back to its home planet , yes you get to see the predators home world , and we meet ' wolf ' predatore version of tarentenos fix it guy from pulp fiction . Wolf comes to mop up the mess as the aliens set about the hick town and its people . Thats as far as i can go without spoiling the film , so if you have seen the first you kinda know whats gonna happen , only you dont , this film is in a class of its own and it rocks . I didnt think they could top the first but they kinda did .

Have A Torch Handy!

If I could see it I would of rated it properly. Action sequences without any lighting. Buy cheap buy twice.

Yes a real "mass" all right

A Customer from Ashford, 9th October, 2009

Its not call requiem for nothing. Previous films in this franchise have had tight scripts and good acting. This had neither. That might have been ok if the picture quality had been better because the action was gung ho all the way and that might have saved it. However, the film was difficult to watch. I don't see the point of having this on bluray with such poor lighting - scenes were too black. I think this was as a result of cheap production values/scenes done in studios.

Please be the actual Requiem....

CJH from , 9th October, 2009

Apologies for massive review of doom! Now AVP was bad but I appreciated how it looked... nothing else. It was stupid, pointless and proved that a 'versus' film doesn't work. When I heard there was a sequel I was devastated, until they said things like 'more action' and 'more blood and gore'. I was interested. What they didn't mention was, 'more pointlessness' and 'more vacuous characters'. I *tried* to not think about the classics it is leeching off... clearly AVP films are for a different audience... but when I see the Alien rear its fearsome head, I can't not think about the awesomeness of Alien and Aliens (hell, Alien 3 and Resurrection look like gold dust in comparison) You see I am referring more to Alien than Predator... this is because I have much more respect for the Alien films, unlike Predator films which.. as evidence here, bear the brunt of this travesty a lot easier. From the start, I was actually interested. We see a dad and his kid in the forest, visually succumbing to Face-Huggers (awesome, I thought). Alas it stopped there. We are then introduced to about fifty different characters, all in the forms of different American stereotypes with all the vacuous nature of Hollyoaks inhabitants. This isn't helped by the way we are given so little time to become attached to any one of them. So naturally things go from bad to worse, Aliens start reproducing in the sewers along side the new 'Predalien' which looks like something a ten year old would design. The direction is terrible... the action is choppy and badly edited while also being incredibly under-lit; you can barely see what's going on. Not to mention the 10 year old daughter of one of the characters, seemingly quite content and unphased by her mother next to her, who's blasting away with a high calibre assault rifle. Asides from the over-abundance of human characters, the Aliens and Predator we want to see are constantly interrupted by 'under-achiever being beaten up by the 25 year old bullies', 'token dense blonde stripes to her underwear for a few minutes' and don't forget the 'two token stoned guys' who are in it for an irrelevant 1 minute before being decapitated..... Not to mention the film generally being dense enough to do this as a scene: Stupid bully: 'We should leave now! The National Guard will be here soon!' Rugged, convict lead hero guy: 'Stop being and idiot, it will take too long!' *They load up with weapons in a shop* *Scene cuts immediately to the National Guard arriving* This film is beyond poor. Yet I find myself completely perplexed as to how this has happened. Did the creators not look at the reason why Alien and Predator were so successful? How can two great 18 rated horror films combine into a 15 which could be regarded as badly as Species 2? It deeply saddens me because young people are being brought up with this sorry depiction of two of the most fearsome creatures ever made in film. Alien is terrifying still, and it's what, twenty-nine years old? Aliens has some of the greatest animatronics and special effects ever made after twenty-two years. It saddens me to see Giger's Alien taken completely out of context next to completely dense actors and a non-existent story. I only hope that this requiem really is the end of AVP... though I doubt the creators even knew what the 'awesome sounding Latin word' actually meant. (clearly not... given it ended on a disjointed 'cliffhanger' which made absolutely no sense to me)
