FIFA 08 on the Wii is a different animal to its Microsoft and Sony brothers in that it's not squarely aimed at the hardcore football gamer. Not initially, anyway. There are two ways to play FIFA 08 on Wii. Family Play is the one that everybody can easily get into: pick up the Wii remote only, and away you go. For those who want to maybe show off a little more, plug in the Nunchuck for advanced control.

FIFA 08's Wii incarnation enables you to pass, shoot, and execute moves all with a flick of the wrist. The all-new Footii Party with Ronaldinho mode - unique to the Wii version - includes three party games featuring the brilliant Brazilian himself. Play Juggling, Table Football and Boot It with your own Mii character to unlock Ronaldinho and then you get to take him on.

You can look forward to burning off a few pounds too with FIFA 08 for Wii, as the game's controls turn FIFA 08 on the Wii into a more physical game than its siblings. You can use your whole body to control everything from tackling to shooting and throw-ins to free kicks, and you can try to send the ball just where you want to with a wave of the Wii remote and Nunchuk. Note here that practice does make perfect in the end. With the in-game Football Academy, you can learn basic and advanced controls in 20-plus interactive tutorials. Each one shows you how to get a handle on the FreeMotion controls and execute the necessary motions to get by.

This game plays a decent game of football, the controls take some getting used to but plays nice when you do. There is no manager mode, just one of season modes for tons of leagues. The thing that disappointed me was the graphics. They are simply awful. I play with the better quality component leads to but the graphics engine is based on the old PS2 one. Not nice to look at all!. Sent it back the same day that i rented it and will stick to my 360 version of fifa instead.

The Wii's first 'real' football sim

A Customer from Norwich, England, 12th November, 2007

This is a great game. The controls take somgetting used to but once mastered they can be very rewarding. Online multi player is also great, using EA's own servers the game runs almost as smoothly online as in regular gameplay. Give this game a chance... it is the best football game for the Wii at themoment... that is maybe until pro evo hits in Q1 next year

forget fifa 08

wardy10 from from Coventry, 27th February, 2008

I was surprised with this title it was a poor attempt to use the wii controls too complex, to start with i had a go on family play which i got bored me before half time but i found was useful to keep my 2 year old interested but anyone older will have trouble enjoying, the mini games give a very limted amount of fun 10 minutes at the most. i gave the game a few days and found the training mode very good but trying to converting any of that into a game is near impossiable. i wouldnt recommend this game to anyone hopefully pro evo will be better just because its on wii it doesnt have to be aimed at grannys or young children we havent all got ps3 / xbox 360

Good Game But Bloody Hard To Master!!

Handsome from from Taunton, 25th June, 2008

I think this football game would be 5 stars if you had hours & hours & hours to master all the controls. There is a useful tutorial where you learn to master all (and there are many) controls. But I found that when I completed the tutorial, I forgot most of what I had learnt as there is just so much to learn. The bottom line is that if you are an avid football gamer with plenty of hours to spend learning this game its definately worth at least a rent. However, you you arent (like me) then it's really best avoided.

oh ah Cantona!!!!

I'm still undecided which of the football games i prefer. PES 2008 allows you to have greater control of the player, by using the remote to move players into position, but i slightly prefer the gameplay of Fifa '08. Good graphics, with nice touches and you won't be disappointed.
