Three American brothers who have not spoken to each other in a year set off on a train voyage across India with a plan to find themselves and bond with each other -- to become brothers again like they used to be. Their "spiritual quest", however, veers rapidly off-course (due to events involving over-the-counter pain killers, Indian cough syrup, and pepper spray), and they eventually find themselves stranded alone in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer, and a laminating machine. At this moment, a new, unplanned journey suddenly begins.

Very limited indeed

A Customer from London, 30th December, 2007

I watched this film without ever having heard of it at all and was drawn in by the creds of its director, plus the Wilson brother combo, whose eccentricity I normally find mildly entertaining. This film, on the other hand, drags on, and on, and on. In fact, it's as slow as the train depicted in the impoverished storyline. Sadly, the whimsical attempts at creating an arthouse film are not enough to hold it all together either. This film is dull and tries far too hard to be clever in an understated manner. It's just plain boring, and also happens to make India and its people look like a bunch of backward idiots.

Loved it, wouldn't watch it again.

A Customer from London, 17th December, 2007

I enjoyed The Life Aquatic, but that was mainly down to Bill Murray, who is always good value, but I found the film dragged a little, as not much happened. The same could be said for The Darjeeling Ltd, except that, as the surreal, amusing, visually-beautiful and occasionally very emotional story unfolded, I found myself completely caught up in its originality, its strangeness and its earnestness. I loved the characters, the music, the colours (sounds an odd thing to say, but it makes sense when you see the film) and the whole visual style. That said, I don't think I'd have the patience to watch it again. There is a lot of novelty in the film, but without it I can see it dragging towards the end, a second time round.

As refreshing as the Tea !

PaulaWestwood from from Ashton-Under-Lyne, 26th November, 2007

The Darjeeling limited is a long distance train that cuts across India, and the film has nothing remotelely to do with the famous Tea. This is a voyage of reconciliation and discovery for three quite different brothers (Owen Wilson, Adrian Brody and Jason Schwartzmann), brought together by Wilsons character (Francis) on a venture to meet with their mother who has become a nun in a remote Indian village. His siblings however know nothing about this meaning to the trip, and despite 'itineraries' being stricly set out by Wilson, things do not happen entirely to plan, leading to a journey none of them expected. This is a really unusual comedy, totally unlike anything around at the moment, and is extremely beautifully set, written, acted and filmed. I can see perhaps some not falling entirely head over heels with it, but personally... I became completely immersed with it, a brilliant film that I will not forget for some time. Definately worth a watch.

A Little Boring.....

A Customer from Bolton, 7th August, 2008

This film is full of quirky moments that make you smile, without ever threatening to make you laugh out loud. It starts off promising, however with the slow pace of the film i started to loose interest. If you like The Life Aquatic of Steve Zizou then you will like this. 2 1/2 Stars!!

Drink it up....and find yourself

A Customer from Bromley, 5th August, 2008

It's a visual feast, with added music and an interesting storyline (I won't say too much as it will spoil it). Owen Wilson summonds his brothers for a journey to find their mother and rebond the family. I defy you not to go on the web afterwards and start plotting your journey through india....I think this is really becoming one of my favourite films, so much so that I went out and bought the sound track - if you don' t like 60s music then forget it as the soundtrack makes this film ....but if you love; colour, trains, India then this is a must..... Typewriter tip tip tip....

Struggled to get through this...

A Customer from London, 4th August, 2008

The good thing about this film was the photography of India, beautiful. Other than that, the characters bar Owen Wilson (who can't act to save his life!!!) were very real, believable and likeable... the story was not a bad one, but the action in the movie moved so slowly that I had to do other things just waiting for the next thing to happen... so for me, it was not the best by any means...

Fine but a bit tedious

A Customer from South Wales, 3rd August, 2008

Although some may have found this film excellent, I found it quite ploddy at times and took a while to get going. The actors were very good in it and fitted their parts well but without a substantial plotline, it's not everyone's cup of tea.
