Based on the Hasbro toy line that initially captivated kids in the 1980s, director Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown. A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humour, and a touch of romance. Featuring a large cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Anthony Anderson, and Rachael Taylor, the film is anchored by LaBeouf, who always displays an engaging Everyman charm, whether he’s running from colossal robots, interacting with his well-meaning parents (hilariously played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White), or pining for his gorgeous classmate (Megan Fox). While some TRANSFORMERS purists may be dismayed by certain aspects of this bold big-screen adaptation (Bumblebee is a Camaro instead of a Volkswagen), the movie balances its spectacle with an admirable amount of substance, giving it an appeal far beyond pre-teen boys and their nostalgic Autobot-loving elders.

David from Glasgow, 25th October, 2007

I bought this HD DVD direct from the US on its release date and I was extremely impressed! The picture quality on this disc was stunning, the big action sequences blew me away, I was sitting with my outh open at some scenes! I was lucky that I hadnt caught this film prevously as the HD version was definatly the way to go. A top, top film, only enhanced by viewing in HD. 10/10

I must have been watching another film!

A Customer from Bracknell, 27th February, 2008

Having read the other reviews on here, I can only assume that I've been sent a different film. Yes, the effects were good, but no better than Terminator 2 all those years ago, or a certain car advert. The story was truly dreadful - kid's stuff, but I guess that's what you should expect from a film based on a toy. It surely says something about a film when you find yourself trying to find the counter function on that new HD-DVD player than watching what's actually on screen. An hour and two minutes (when, I assume, Optimus Prime revealed itself) and it was time for the eject button. Absolute rubbish.

So so pretty......

Kristoff from , 4th December, 2007

I've recently purchased a HD DVD player and this is only the 3rd film I've watched on it but I have t osay it looked incredible! Especially the fight in the city at the end, high def debris flying everywhere! And the Transformers looked flawless, I'd recommend this film purley to look at! The actual plot isn't anything complex, just enough to keep it interesting and justify the events, nothing too contrived here. If you liked the cartoon then I'd highly recommend giving it a watch because it has everything, cool cars, big fights, a few cheesy bits of 80's worthy dialogue between the bots. Esp Optimus and Megatron, 'So it's just you and me Megatron, no Prime....it's just me!' Inspired. Other than that it's a typical Michael Bay affair, big set pieces and big explosions that are all very well handled. It is surprisingly long tho and the majority of the transformers don't appear until about an hour in! All in all tho, good mindlesss fun!

A Customer from Warrington, 23rd April, 2008

as a big fan of the cartoon series i was not disappointed with the film. some cheesy lines in the film but when they transform the special effects are out of this world, just a pity then didnt have the original sound, optimus primes voice is still done by the original guy from the cartoon series. would highly recommend this film and its even better in HD

Excellent film

A Customer from Bingley, 9th December, 2008

Excellent film, great graphics. Unfortunetly it deserves its 12 rating because of the one-liners the director couldn't resist.
