Danny Boyle's 2003 hit 28 DAYS LATER receives the sequel treatment in 28 WEEKS LATER. Few elements from the first film remain--actor Cillian Murphy doesn't return, and Boyle and screenwriter/novelist Alex Garland take producer credits this time out. In their places step director/co-writer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (INTACTO) and actor Robert Carlyle (TRAINSPOTTING), who bring the original story to its next logical step. The zombies (again referred to as the infected) from the first film have died out and England is ready for repopulation. The American military are slowly bringing British citizens back to London, where a heavily guarded community is picking up the pieces and trying to return to normal life. Carlyle plays Don, a man who has lost his wife but is reunited with his children, Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton) and Tammy (Imogen Poots), near the start of Fresnadillo's film. The two kids soon escape from the heavily guarded community, go off searching for their childhood home, and discover that mum might not be quite as dead as they originally thought. Chaos follows, with the sadistic military and the forlorn survivors battling both each other and the infected.
Fresnadillo apes much of Boyle's style from the original film, shooting in rapidly edited sequences that cause plenty of blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments. A pounding soundtrack helps enliven the scenes with the infected, and an abundance of swooping aerial shots highlight the desolate London landscape. A few minor sub-plots emerge, Fresnadillo offers sly commentary on the military's trigger-happy tendencies, and the film ends up somewhere in between zombie fare such as George A. Romero's LAND OF THE DEAD and dystopian visions of the future such as Alfonso Cuaron's CHILDREN OF MEN.

not too bad

donutbob from from Northolt, 4th January, 2008

Film was very good.Had some good tense moments but the plot did lack a little. Some parts left me thinking that things didn't quite make sense or seem possible. All in all though it was a pretty good movie and a good sequel as sequels go.

28 Weeks later

Gary Brechin from South Shields, 18th November, 2007

This movie in my opinion was better than the first one which I liked very much. A very fine performance from Robert Carlyle. The tension and suspense is really good and keeps you on the edge of your seat and it is a proper good horror film with plenty of gore. The special effects are really good watch out for helicopter scene ( I wont spoil it for you ) It is awsome. Anyway if you like your horror you must rent this this and the the Blu Ray picture is fantastic with tons of extras on the disc. If you like zombie movies check out the classic original Dawn of the dead and the re-make was quite good too.

Careful - Region Encoded!

Sebastian Marek from Sheffield, England, 15th May, 2008

This is the second BluRay disc (after Click - BLU-RAY Version ) I have come across which enforces region-encoding. This means that if, like me, you have purchased a PS3 or other BluRay player from the US or Taiwan (because they are much cheaper) then this movie WILL NOT PLAY in your machine.

Not all that to be honest.

Teninch from , 6th March, 2010

Well, this film just didn't do anything for me at all. Very poor quality blue ray, not much in the way of plot. Acting was so so. A real shame as I thought this was going to be great. Felt very cheap and badly directed.

Not a patch on 28 days

MrsScrotmonkey from , 12th January, 2010

The film starts well with a good zombie massacre, and continues the atmosphere of the original as the initial act is set in the aftermath of 28 days, however, as it moves on to the Americans saving the day it deteriorates quickly and loses all the terror. The one redeeming feature, and what earned it the single star, is the short scene tagged on at the very end when the rage gets loose in Paris.
