Studied, rather than exciting.

PaulaWestwood from , 24th September, 2007

Taken from a bestseller, this is a studied, rather than exciting film. As an elderly mothers life begins to wane, her memories take over on her deathbed and through murmours and dream talk, she imparts details about her young life to her daughters that they knew nothing abot previosuly. This has the effect of answering some of the daughters unanswered questions from their youth, as well as impacting their decisions on the current state of their lives. This is a superbly acted film, and the talent present portrays the subject superbly. The downside, is that it is a tad ponderous and overlong for some, and it might not hold your attention for the whole 117 minutes.

Oh NO!

Kalina from , 2nd September, 2008

Cheesy, boring, hard to believe this is quite a recent film, felt more like watching really bad 1990's tv drama. Very very disappointing, pure waste of time.

What a cast, what a let down

A Customer from London, 27th February, 2008

In a nutshell, despite some fantastic women actors to draw you to this fulm, it was slow, predictable and really a big disappointment. It was the shortest glimpse of a dying woman's snapshot memories and some side characters which you did not get to know or understand. In fact in finishing the film you didn't even really get to know the main character - did she have regrets or was she happy in her memories - it didn't seem it.

This is a disappointing film which jumps around from past to present. My wife likes these kind of films but became a little bemused by it all The plot was good but the film was not exciting

Eloquent and beautiful

Mapa from , 13th March, 2010

This film is about being a woman, a mum, a sister, a daughter, a friend. It is about the pains and wonders of womanhood. I watched first two years ago halfway our road to divorce and it said a lot to me. Happily single, I watched it again and it still spoke to me. I think it always will. I want to buy it.

A good film to watch if you want to see life in privileged American society. Great sets and locations all make for an excellent film. Stunning performances from many cast members. The accident is realistic and a shocker. Meryl Streep is again at her best.

We had to watch this twice but once we got into it, it turned into a really good film. Superb performances by all the old greats. You do have to concentrate on what's going on otherwise you miss bits. X X X X
