With the stage set by a contemporary spate of films starring WWE wrestlers, including SEE NO EVIL (Glen "Kane" Jacobs) and THE MARINE (John Cena), THE CONDEMNED follows suit by building a story around the massive physique and impassive demeanor of pro wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Austin plays former military agent Jack Conrad, whose top-secret mission to El Salvador went awry; the mountainous man wound up on death row in a local prison while his associates back home conveniently forgot about him. Conrad is offered a final chance at clemency by the evil entertainment tycoon Ian Breckel (Robert Mammone, THE MATRIX RELOADED), who buys up Conrad and nine other condemned men and forces them to participate in his diabolical new reality-TV show. The game is simple: the contestants are dropped on a remote island fitted with cameras, and instructed to kill or be killed over the next 30 hours. At the end of that time, the sole survivor will be awarded his freedom and a large cash prize, and the event can be viewed online for $49.95. Conrad, not a murderer by nature, is forced to defend himself against fellow contestants Saiga (Masa Yamaguchi), who is a Japanese martial artist; badass Brit McStarley (former soccer star Vinnie Jones); and the deadly Ghanaian woman Yasantwa (Emelia Jones).

'The Condemned'

tripleshotlatte from from Edinburgh, 31st March, 2008

Ok ten ex-cons all on death row. Dropped off on an island full of cameras.Thirty hours for one to survive and walk free. Live streaming to the net. Simple idea works really well. If you like your movies where you don't have to think . This is the one for you. Lots of action . Great to see Stone Cold do what he is good at . Vinnie Jones is a bit annoying and you can't help yourself cheering on Austin. Deserves to have done better in the cinema. five stars for being what it says on the tin ....an action movie..

bionic man- not

futbar from , 10th February, 2008

the only Steve Austin i know was the bionic man in the 70's. for a wrestler this guy did ok, the film was enjoyable enough if a bit low budget. Vinnie Jones is very annoying in this film, believe it or not HE sounds like he is faking a British accent

Non stop action

MadViking from , 5th March, 2010

Do not expect anything but non stop action and you will be fine. It is not a new story line: 10 ex cons dropped off on an island to fight etc. etc. However, the scenery is beautiful and you just watch and do not have to concentrate. There are some twists later in the film which are interesting.

better than expected

soz from , 26th February, 2010

I wasn't expecting much from a film with wrestlers in it but i was pleasantly surprised. It was about a man who thought getting prisoners onto an island and letting them fight to be the survivor was a good idea and televise it. It was actually very well done and the violence was sometimes a bit much but it did keep you watching. The producers team turn against him and the prisoners want revenge so its sets for a good story. Acting was actually good and it was a different kind of film to watch from the normal so i would recommend it.

EXTREMELY VIOLENT

cheryl connolly from Northants, England, 24th February, 2010

I was looking forward to watching this and although I knew there would be violence I was shocked by the degree it showed in particular the scene with the husband watching on as his wife is tortured, raped and murdered. However the finale with a fitting end helps. A very mixed review on this one I'm afraid as was compelled to continue watching.

The best of Vinnie Jones.

minxyred from from Sawbridgeworth, 23rd February, 2010

Love this film, Vinnie Jones doing what he does best and being a hard arse is one. Stone Cold Steve Austin, a mountain of a man and a good actor, looking forward to seeing him in something else, could be the next Arnie. Would recommend to anyone who likes a bit of blood and a good action film.
