WOLF CREEK is a grim and disturbing horror film, based on actual events in the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE vein. It's also beautifully shot, with director Greg McLean (in his feature film debut) making the otherworldly majesty of Australia's outback emerge as a part of the story. Cassandra Magrath and Kesti Morassi play the two young British girls travelling with their Aussie friend, Ben (Nathan Phillips), to Wolf Creek, the remote location of a giant meteor crater. When their car breaks down, a jovial, Crocodile Dundee-type named Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) offers to tow them to his even more remote auto camp. What happens next ensures, among other things, that surviving audience members will never think of Crocodile Dundee in quite the same happy way again. In addition to McLean's painterly use of scenery in establishing mood, the film benefits from the slow, methodical build-up of character detail; the actors are given space to develop a believable rapport, something all too rare in this kind of film. The characters are people, not stock slasher-film types, and this makes the ensuing scenes of cruelty and violence all the more unbearable. This is one carefully crafted, genuinely scary horror film.

Considering the comparisons to The Texas Chain Saw massacre I was expecting this film to deliver more than it did. It was very long to get into with little character development considering the time it took to reach the turning point in the film. However once it got going it did get marginally better, if its blood and gore after than it doesn't disappoint on that front. I did feel the ending could have been better, or perhaps to have a little bit of a twist, but unfortunately it was just predictable. I guess if you want a horror film that's a litle different then it might be worth a shot. The blu ray quality really makes the movie, the Australian scenery looked amazing.

A pants story

aMillion from from Lingfield, England, 17th September, 2008

Best thing about this entire film was the beginning (he gets his top off) and the end (he gets his top off). It obeys all the laws of a horror film (cue Scream) and as such should have been put into a time machine and released back in 1990.

There's a 'girl doesn't arm herself even though there's guns and big bits of metal everywhere' scene, the 'girl doesn't kill the guy she knocks out and instead taps him with something long and thin' scene, the 'girl forgets the car keys' scene, the 'girl prefers to watch her best friend getting raped and shot for 20 minutes' scene, and even a 'I'm being shot at by a hunter with a sniper rifle so I'm going to stand in clear view' scene.

It's just pants. Pants pants pants.

Which is shame because with less pants it might have actually got half a star.

As expected

This film was good, it is a low budget film with a cast of non famous actors. It kept us glued to the tv. It is not too long and has moments in some scenes that make you jump. Saying that though some parts of the film were predictable, but I don't know whether this is because I have watched many films that are like this. If you like films like texas chainsaw then this is a film which you should also add to your list of must sees.

Our villain steals the show, and is let down by some ropey acting from the two Brits. The usual intermittent gore keeps this one chugging along, but certainly not on the edge of your seat.

An hour aprox before any kind of horror kicks in but to be honest the first hour is not that bad.The story is quite good and the scenes are quite cool to.It is a bit low budget but worth a rent.

This film was okay, messes with your mind a bit.. Blu-Ray dissapointed me for such a new film the quality was kinda poor in the dark sections. Good for a watch, but story has been done many times before.
