Ewan McGregor (MOULIN ROUGE, TRAINSPOTTING) hosts this portrait of Churchill, the Canadian wonderland on Hudson Bay. The frigid wilderness is inviting to a large polar bear population in the area, making this a tourist site for many adventurers. Canadian rangers are then at pains to control both the human crowds and the bears. One wandering bear is put into a sort of bear jail in one of the many unforgettable moments in this episode from the PBS series, IN THE WILD.

Polars and Ewan - Aw

Amanda from England, 7th July, 2004

This is a great documentry about Polar bears which you will learn a lot about there lives and who to help us with the journey than Ewan himself. Ewan is a perfect fit for these animals, he is so keyed in with nature and it is amazing to see how devoted he is to these creatures. If you love Ewan Mcgregor this is something to watch as you will love him more....especially with his preview of his singing voice and guitar. Ewan is a kind hearted man and watching him with these animals is lovely to watch. Ewan and polar bears.....who would be stupid not to watch it.

Worth watching

A Customer from The green green grass of home, 7th April, 2005

I am really glad that I watched this documentary. We had been thinking of booking a trip to Canada to see the polar bears of Churchill but this documentary has changed my mind. Whilst I can appreciate that Polar Bears are a hazard to humans, I can't help feeling disgusted at the way they are treated and exploited in Churchill. It has certainly enlightened me and I don't think I will ever forget the horrific sight of the polar bears being flown in a net by a helicopter after being kept in the 'Polar Prison'. Truly shocking. It was nice that they showed Ewan with the bears in their more natural environment. Now, that's the only way to see them. This documentary is well presented, very informative and shows that Ewan is not only a talented actor but a good presenter too.... oh, and the polar bears are cute too. Excellent.

Its Ewan Mcgregor!

A Customer from Folkestone, 8th November, 2008

How can you not love a documentary with ewan as the presenter, aside from the fact he is brilliant as a presenter and u can see his genuine interest and care for these animals the documentary itself was a very interesting insight into how these incredible creatures and native people live alongside each other.

Beautiful bears.

Sugarcube from Cambs, 15th March, 2005

This is a very interesting and informative documentary. Made all the more watchable by Ewan's laid back but intelligent presenting style and the beautiful polar bears.

Quite astounding facts about how the bears function and react in to what we would experience as a hostile environment.

Great for both Ewan and Bear Fans

Alexxe from from Glasgow, 14th November, 2009

Being Canadian, I have seen this special before but I remembered enjoying it so much, I rented it again. I have heard that Ewan is not happy about this being available on DVD as he has not been paid properly for his work on it. It's a shame about that, but it's hard to resist. It's a younger less jaded Ewan we see here - amazed as a child at the world of the Polar Bears in Churchill Manitoba. There is excellent footage of these lethal animals poking around the vehicles like little kids with a toy. It is also a great doc on the co-existence between the humans and the bears in this area. There is also the opportunity to hear Ewan play guitar and sing some beautiful Scottish songs. Enjoy.

Dire ego fest

A Customer from Oxford, 26th August, 2009

Unfortunately, half a star is the lowest rating I can give. Dire ego fest featuring vast amounts of Mr. McGregor & very few polar bears. If you enjoy watching film star egos being massaged then you'll love this, otherwise avoid.

Maybe He Should Have Done It With A Motorbike??

JustAFanTC from from Leeds, 13th July, 2009

I love to see the rich and famous have experiences like this - it just amazes me that they never did them before with the money they earn. To be in the company with an animal as spellbinding as a Polar Bear too is definetly something to take advantage of, Yet......... the only thing interesting to watch are the animals themselves. Sure, Ewan McGregor is his charming self, but throughout the whole documentary it seems like he has been dragged in front of the camera at the last minute and doesn't know what's going on. To be honest, stay clear of this, there are plenty of Documentaries which are much better, but it is worth a watch for the bears, but that is all.
