Some time in the future, a group of friends joins Earth's military forces after high school graduation to battle the insectoid Klendathu. One fights for the chance to be a renowned pilot (Denise Richards), one for revenge (Casper Van Dien), and one for the love of a good man (Dina Meyer), but interpersonal relationships take a backseat to the firepower leveled against (and returned from) the chitinous aliens. Paul Verhoeven's subversively humourous and thrilling sci-fi film is adapted from the classic science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein.

Great Movie

A Customer from Cornwall, 22nd September, 2007

This movie has just about the best picture quality of any HD movie I have seen. Plenty of monsters and gore (some nudity).

At least I don't have to turn this one over.

Jeffa from , 9th April, 2008

I have liked this film since it was first released, but I had one of those Dual DVD players and instead of turning over I put the side one of one I purchased in one tray and the 2nd I purchased in the second tray. When it came to the switch over I switched DVD's rather than having to get up. Lazy, I, know but as it was such a good film I didn't want to miss a second. This time they have crammed it all on one side of Blu-Ray disk, even if it does take up some 38GB of it I do believe. About the only actress who was not new to me at the time was Dina Meyer 'DragonHeart' and Actor's Michael Ironside as well as Jake Busey. Jake Busey, son of Gary, was famous for his role in Contact. SCIFI with Michael Ironside goes as far as Total Recall. The film is explicit in its nature and though gorey in other I would not classify the nude scenes as obscene or even PG rated. Sex doesn't really come into the films scope and that is why it is treated so casually. The film has its extremes from good to gruesome in a matter of seconds and thus this is why it gets its certification. This is a good time for those who missed it the first time round to actually find out what it is truly about because you would most probably be old enough and secondly its is a good action SCIFI movie. Though the film still inherits its wide screen aspect ratio It has had some improvements to its treatment. The Digital effects by Sony and ILM have been better contrasted and are more colourful, the external scenes as well as the internal ones have been better contrasted and colured with a better saturation pattern. I cannot help but think that this would be better in Imax, but Blu-Ray will do. A good 4 star movie. I have not really heightenned the appearences of some newcomers in the movie because Denise Richards didn't really feature. I believe this was just used as a platform for her and nothing more. I have only seen Casper Van Dein in one Box Office film since then(Sleepy Hollow), a few B movie appearences but nothing of consequence. A film that stands on its own. Starship Troopers 2 was a flop and deservedly so.

Good film, good picture

NekoFever from from Bournemouth, 18th February, 2008

Starship Troopers is as fun as ever. It's as subtle as a brick, both in terms of its political messages (just look at the intelligence officers' uniforms) and the copious nudity and violence, but it's an entertaining sci-fi action film with memorable sequences and characters. It's well worth a look. The video quality on this Blu-ray is, on the whole, very good. Some scenes look a bit over-sharpened but the print is very clean and there's a ton of detail. Certain shots of the fleet in space look stunning. It's a large improvement over any of the DVD versions and definitely worth watching again if you're a fan.

Spectacular

Treadstone from , 19th May, 2008

Over ten years later and Starship Troopers is still a great watch. I had forgotten much of it and found the plot to be very engaging. The special effects still hold there own and the blu ray transfer is excellent. Highly recommended stuff.

One of the best films ever

rosspops from , 18th September, 2009

Total tongue in cheek sci-fi action film along the same lines as Robocop or a subtle portrayal of mans ultimate savagery, even over mindless bloodthirsty insects. Probably not though.

Trooper

LoveReview from , 9th June, 2009

What a film this is. Funny well acted and scripted. The ones that follow this are awful, embarrassing and should never have been made but this is in a league of its own. One you have to watch time and time again. In fact I've watched it more than twenty times. Oh and blu-ray is a serious must!

Lacks stars

A Customer from Wetherby, 7th February, 2009

Film is good for action, Blu- ray quality is good. Story line is satirical -but some of the acting is wooden- definitly lacking a few stars!

Best Sci-fi film

A Customer from Swansea, 5th February, 2009

I loved this film the first time I saw it, the tenth time I saw and so on. I did not think the Blu-Ray version would be able to improve the picture effects but it does, absolutely amazing. I have just bought it on Blu-Ray.
