The potential was there. 5/10.

Five Fingers is quite a unique film, even more so as my wife and I ended the movie still unsure whether we like it or not! The idea is certainly a good one but I was not convinced at all by the execution. That said I must confess the primary twist, even though my wife spotted in well in advance, got us talking at least, and that from a movie is a good thing. Martijn (Ryan Phillipe) is a Dutch man travelling to Morocco who is kidnapped and tortured for information by a group of people led by Laurence Fishburne. The movie starts quickly jumping straight into the kidnap scenes and whilst this did bring the intrigue in immediately it also proved to distance us, the viewers, from the characters. At one point it seemed we were watching nothing more than 2 people talking in riddles for 2 hours, however thankfully the content does grow, as do the characters as the movie flashes back providing a little background. Sadly we both felt the set and ambience was not quite right and together with some average acting to say the least Five Fingers developed a budget feel to it. As the movie progresses a few twists emerge that were enjoyable and the ending although blunt did get us talking at least. The pace is slow in places and I would not purposely recommend this movie to buy or rent however if it’s on Sky or something then maybe give it a shot, the potential was there. Average, 5/10. 3 Stars.
