In 2004, a low-budget horror film about a man who put people with moral failings into grisly, murderous situations became a huge hit. In 2005, the sequel scored again, upping the body count and the terror. In 2006, the franchise continued, with plenty of gore as well as an emotional story line that delved into the psychological makeup of the main characters. As SAW II concluded, Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) was dying. But that doesn't mean his penchant for playing games of torture and violence is ending. In SAW 3, the murders start occurring again, and Kerry (Dina Meyer) is back on the case, although she thinks this time it might be the work of a copycat. She's only partly right: Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the only victim to have survived both movies, has joined Jigsaw as his apprentice, leading the way through a terrifying game involving Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), a doctor in an unhappy marriage, and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen), a distraught man who is having trouble getting over the loss of his son (Stefan Georgiou) at the hands of a drunk driver. Amanda has captured Lynn and placed her in a neck brace that is linked to Jigsaw's heart monitor; she must keep Jigsaw alive or else the brace will explode. Meanwhile, Jeff is sent on a dangerous journey on which he faces all the people involved in the light penalty his boy's killer received--and it is up to him whether he will seek vengeance or offer forgiveness. Helmed by SAW II director Darren Lynn Bousman and written by original SAW screenwriter and star Leigh Whannell (with a story by Whannell and SAW director James Wan), SAW 3 is an intricately designed, gruesome thriller with a hard-driving soundtrack featuring songs by Slayer, Helmet, and All that Remains.

What is the point...really?

Treadstone from , 7th February, 2008

I have seen all the Saw movies and the sole reason I rented the third installment was becuase it was in Blu Ray. Like the predecessors, Jigsaw continues in his twisted, psychotic crusade to convince people that their lives really ain't so bad by setting them up in situations whereby inevitably they are tortured and in most cases, slaughtered in the most sickening, gut wrenching manner (albeit at their own hands apparently). Deepdown, this Jigsaw fellow really is a nice man with morals. Erm, yeah right... So what is the point of these movies? Actually...I really don't know. Theres a bit of a twist but not a particularly good one. People who enjoy these movies really ought to seek psychological help. As for the people who make these movies, I have to wonder what deranged, freaks they really are. The world is f*cked enough as it is, I found myself asking myself...is this really entertainment? Nope. Not at all.

gorey and twisted

A Customer from london, 13th November, 2007

having watch the first two in standard def, i decided to rent the blu ray version of saw 3. Anyone who tells you they can't see the difference between hi def and standard def is probably blind or hasn't watched hi def. This movie in hi def makes you cringe and look away from the screen. the sound is awesome too. If you have a blu ray player, rent it and see if your stomach can handle it.

Great and as good as the first two!

Greg T from Sussex, England, 5th February, 2009

The story picks up where it left off and is the usual blood and gore! In fact this one made me the most squeamish! Especially when Jigsaw gets his brain surgery!!!! If you've seen the first two you have to see this one.

Good ending, but still average

A Customer from Bathgate, 10th November, 2008

I'll be honest, I generally hate horror films and the scenes of sickening torture and violence in the Saw filsm makes me cringe.....I'm not a fan of ghore or pain. But my fiancee wanted to watch it with me, so endure this and the other 4 Saw films, I have. This one is not as edgy and mysterious as the first 2 Saw films as we now know and see who the mastermind is and who his accomplice is, which detracts from the story in my opinion. However, the ending of this film is quite clever and well-executed, if you'll forgive my pun. In the end though it's just another ghore fest that did nothing for me. Hence 3 stars. They really hsould have left Saw as a trilogy as Saw IV was plain rubbish. The 1st two films are better in my opinion.
