Director Martin Scorsese returns to his trademark style with the violent, bruised, and bloody feature THE DEPARTED. Scorsese filched the basic storyline from Wai Keung Lau and Siu Fai Mak's masterful 2002 Hong Kong action film, INFERNAL AFFAIRS, which saw a policeman going undercover as a mob member and a mob member infiltrating the police force. Scorsese transfers the action to Boston, positioning Leonardo DiCaprio as undercover cop William Costigan and Matt Damon as undercover mobster Colin Sullivan. While Costigan and Sullivan get into plenty of nail-biting situations that almost reveal their true identities, Scorsese gradually unravels his strong supporting cast, including Jack Nicholson as Sullivan's mob boss, Frank Costello; Ray Winstone as Costello's meat-headed muscle; Mark Wahlberg as a hot-headed police sergeant; and Vera Farmiga as a love interest for both Damon and Di Caprio's characters.

Rubbish !!

A Customer from Kent, 9th January, 2008

Absoloute rubbish..After reading the previous rteviews i was expecting alot more from this film. It certainly isn't 'gorey', infact it's rather dull..Also a whole cast of fake brooklyn accents completly spolit it..I'm a big Ray Winston fan, his cameo role and fake accent was a complete waste of time....Avoid !!

I enjoyed the film at the cinema, and if anything enjoyed it more 2nd time round. I was pleased with the quality of this blu ray disc, a clean sharp picture and excellent quality sound. My impression at first on viewing the film was how the story stretched credibility. The documentary extra shows how it was actually not far off to what happened with a notorious boston gangster.

Awesome!

Watch this, especially on blu-ray, it's one of Scorsese’s best and it had us riveted for its entire length. The accents are true too Boston and are quite hard to understand initially but they only add to the realistic feel this whole film has. DiCaprio out-acts Matt Damon (which I found surprising) although you can tell everyone involved is loving making this modern classic, especially Jack Nicholson who is a truly menacing and deranged character throughout. I can't recommend this highly enough.

The Departed

I thought this was a good film but, if you don`t like blood and guts, this is not for you. Frankly, I found it one of the most gorey films I have ever seen but, in actual fact, I usually try to avoid films like that. There was a plethora of bad language - do people really speak like that? Well - I suppose it was the US State Police..... I can`t say I didn`t enjoy it and it had me on the edge of my seat right till the end and then, I had to have a glass of whisky!

I was expecting horror, but this film lacks that blood chilling element. Some scenes were comedy rather than thriller. Very disappointing.

Awesome

Basic tale of two rookie cops but both with completly different agendas. Fanatastic acting throughout in particular Jack Nicholson. If you like The Godfather or goodfellas then you'll love this. The Departed was quite simply awesome
