Embraced by millions around the world, Mary Poppins is one of Disney's most enchanting fantasies and the motion-picture hit that made "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" a household word! Julie Andrews, in her Oscar winning performance, stars as the loveable nanny who soars out of the skies and into the hearts of everyone she encounters. Toting a carpetbag full of magical adventures, Mary and her fun-loving sidekick Bert (Dick Van Dyke) deliver endless joy and suprises to a troubled family. Mary Poppins remains an unparalleled blend of animation and live action, complete with an Oscar winning musical score (Best Song for 'Chim Chim Cher-ee')

Radio Times

This is easily the best of Disney's experiments in combining animation and live action, and one of the studio's best-loved films. The last feature overseen by Walt Disney before his death, it was nominated for 13 Oscars and scooped five, including best actress for Julie Andrews in her screen debut. She is splendid as the prim nanny who transforms the lives of her young charges through their visits to her charming fantasy world. Quite why Dick Van Dyke was not even nominated for his performance as Bert the chimney sweep remains a mystery, as his energy is one of the picture's main assets (though his cockney accent does leave something to be desired). Packed with unforgettable sequences, adorable cartoon characters and timeless songs, it's quite simply supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Halliwell's Film Guide

Sporadically a very pleasant and effective entertainment for children of all ages, with plenty of brightness and charm including magic tricks, the mixing of live with cartoon adventures, and just plain fun. It suffers, however, from a wandering narrative

Bonus Disc is rubbish

A Customer from Colchester, 11th September, 2005

It gets 1 star because they dont do 0 star rating Dont get the bonus disc that comes with this film unless you are an ardent fan. It contains a typical (well rehearsed) 'pretend', around the piano, get together with Andrews, Van Dyke and the composer. Un-interesting conversations with pointless anecdotes. The added 'bonus' story, kids and andrews jump through pavement etc, is an awful and typical American moral cartoon. Really, remove the bonus disc from your selection and get something else instead. You'll be glad you did.

Your kids will love it as much as you did

A Customer from Warwickshire, England, 16th October, 2005

If you suspect this film will have dated too much for your Shrek generation kids to enjoy it then think again. My own children are 3 and 4 and along with my friends kids of similar ages, they have all rewound this film for repeat watching again and again. ...great to watch a film where both you AND your children know the words to every song.

awful

A Customer from salisbury, 15th January, 2010

my 8 year old wanted this and was so bored even she wanted it to stop. Should have listened to my parents who walked out of the cinema when they went to see this 40 years ago.

A TRUE CLASSIC

happybananas from , 28th April, 2009

This is one of those timeless movies that everyone must see along side classics such as Dirty Dancing and Grease. I adored this film as a child and 10 years later I still love it as an adult. It has something for everyone. It is the perfect balance of magic, comedy, catchy sing-a-longs and a whole lot of imagination. A film in a league of its own; like no other!
