Nice but dim

Phil Bowen www.o35s.com from www.o35s.com, 26th August, 2007

Looks good with some very flash graphics, thing is I just cant seem to get into it. It's a monster shooter, another Doom wannabe. I despise the live play due to foul mouthed kids which seem to clutter the lobbies, quite obvious due to some of the profanity ridden reviews found here. It is a game with an age rating aimed at kids, good but not for me. My rating 8 out of 10 single player, 1 out of 10 on xbox live (spolied by loud mouthed youngsters)

Excellent!

This game maybe playable solo in days/weeks, but come on-who buys/rents GOW to play it solo? This game was/is made for the online gamer's, every game you play is different, you can play against friends or total strangers & you can even make friends/team-mates that you can play against again & again. I've had this game since Christmas & call me sad but NO other game comes even close & i'm no where near bored of it yet. My son's even play it (i change the filtering rules so they're not playing against the same players as me & they're not subjected to bad language etc), UNFORTUNATELY they're all better than me! My oldest lad plays against his mates at school (he's 12) as well as against total strangers, my 10yr old plays against anyone/everyone until they kick him off as he does not shut up throughout gameplay talking about himself & anything in his life totally unrelated to the game at hand! & Even my 5yr old loves this game! Although i can't give him the headset as he's absolutely mint with a sniper (esp when it comes to a head shot at ANY distance), so i don't want the grown-up's out there to have their illusions shattered when they realise they've just been wasted by a 5yr old! He really is that good (ie better than all of us!) which is very frustrating! Also i find a great thing about this game is that i can set it up for my 5yr old & unlike with most games-he's NOT asking for help every 10 seconds & he IS more than happy to play it on his own online, as are my other 2 son's-it's just a shame i can't afford to buy them an xbox 360 each as the main problem GOW causes me is them all fighting over it! Anyway what more can i say? BUY IT! RENT IT! EITHER WAY YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Just another COG in the war

Katie Strong from the arse end of england, 27th February, 2007

Gears of War is fantastic from the moment you press 'PLAY' on your xbox 360. The visuals are great, and if you own a HD tv you are in for a real treat. The subtle lighting and reflections add to the ambience of the game and the sound is spot no in most places. The only downside is the final battle with General RAMM. Rather disappointing ending, but hopefully leads onto bigger and better things. As for the online aspect, a lot of exploited glitches come into play. Either learn them quickly, find people who wont use the exploits, or avoid like the plague.

Gears of War Rocks

Anthiny Bell from England, 13th March, 2007

This game is the best game i have played in years, it is visually stunning and the gameplay is excellent, the online mode is even better than the offline. There is a very good story surrounding the gameplay on single player that keeps you gripped until the end, this is the first game i have completed on all easy, medium and hard settings. I totally recommend it to anyone thinking of getting it.

Late review

xHHxCURTxHHx from , 17th November, 2009

Ok so this is a late review and i doubt anybody will buy this now, but i have to write a review on this game. First of all, this is my favourite game of all time and this is after the releases of halo 3, left 4 dead, gears 2 (total let down for me personally as so much changed), modern warfare and modern warfare 2. The co-op campaign is a good length and is extremely fun with a friend. A fantastic story, as you know leads and links perfectly with the second part of the franchise, with the introduction of four different and great characters. The relationship between the different characters is well thought out with the two lesser characters, Baird and Cole being great assets to the game which have the occasional humour throughout. The graphics for the game, which considering the game being a few years out of date, are some of the best on the xbox. The online experience, apart from players who quit in long games, is still my favourite and after three years of the release, i occasionally go back for more. Choose how you want to play, stay back, watch the enemy and pick your move, or run and gun. Whatever you choose, be tactical about it and try to always use your team. The friendly spats between teams after every round can make for great competition and steer you forward or knock you off track and destroy your game. Fantastic game that will live on for a long time and didn't have the background that modern warfare and halo 3 had to live off. 5/5 star game rating 100%

Gears Of War

Ganondorf6667 from , 25th August, 2009

Gears Of War. Seeing the trailer for the first time many years ago made me think.....*drools* WOW, It just looked great. So i get the game, Play it, Whats the verdict : Story : The story opens up with a 'Anti-War Hero' Vetern Soilder Marcus Fenix, Who has been through into Jacinto Maximum Security Prison for 40 years for abadoning his post during the Battle Of Aspho Fields to make an attempt to save his father 'Adam Fenix' after reciveing a distress call, 4 years into his imprisonment his old war buddy Domonic 'Dom' Santiago comes to bust him out, Why?, The Coalition of Ordered Governments needed ALL the help they can get because of the Locust Horde. Gameplay : You go though Chapter in the game advaning to the nex level battling The Locust Horde, You have to use every piece of the enviroment as 'Cover' to protect yourself the Locust popping your head off, This is pulled off in very fine fashion, The Control Scheme of the game works a charm with the cover system and whole Third Person Shooter element. Multiplayer : You've your typical Deathmatch scerenios (sp?) it the form of Gametypes called : Warzone and Execution, Plus with a Gametype called Assassionation where there is a leader and he has to stay alive or they lose Another mode is called Annex where there are different areas on the map that need to be 'Captured' to drain points and have the highest score Graphics : Jaw droppingly outstanding Replay Value : There are three different difficulty settings (Casual, Hardcore and Insane) and you get a maximum of 7 Hours playtime (depending on difficulty and skill) but the Multiplayer is the real shiner hear, Sure some games can be laggy (picture it has rain at a football match) everything has its disadvantages. Regardless of that nothing will stop Gears Of War being the 'Sonic The Hedgehog and 'Super Mario' games that we all used to play years ago that made us feel great 30 years from now instead of saying 'Hey, Remember beating Sonic in like 30 mins' we will be saying 'Remember Chainsawing them Locust Drones And Stomping on there heads!!! : Fact. Perfect Score 10/10!!
