In the beginning, god(s) created a bunch of stuff, and people. Eventually one of those people created the NES, and it was good. Then, Shigeru Miyamoto and co. created The Legend of Zelda, and suddenly it was even better! Now, nearly 20 years later the latest instalment in the seminal franchise arrives to coincide with Nintendo's newest console. The game once again has you following a story of a stoic guy named Link as he saves a once great land from dark things of some sort.

Link is sent to bear a gift to the royal family of Hyrule, but things just aren't going his way, and before he can leave, tragedy strikes the village. He's yanked into a twilight gloom that has covered Hyrule. When he enters that strange and otherworldly realm, he transforms into a wolf and is quickly captured. Things aren't looking too cracking for our hero. Fortunately, a mysterious figure named Midna helps him break free (the game wouldn't be up to much if you spent the entire time stuck in prison, would it?). With the aid of her magic, they set off to free the land from the shadows.

Twilight Princess is a game of epic proportions. This is demonstrated fairly early on when you are charged with travelling through four different areas to collect stolen tears of light in order to push the invading twilight out of each area. These tasks seem to span all of the known world, but later on in the game it becomes clear that there is a great deal more map than originally assumed. To sum up: this game is big - very big.

Then of course, there is the Wii Remote and its effect on the game. It might take a bit of getting used to. After all, we have had close to two decades playing Zelda with an old-fashioned control pad. After a little time playing, however, waving your Wii remote around to attack becomes second nature and really adds to the experience. Then, of course, you've got various side pursuits like fishing to really show the many uses for the control system.

This is Nintendo's big Wii offering to those of us who don't need converting to gaming, and it promises to pull out the stops and show us what the system's capable of.

Terrible game

Csiman from , 12th January, 2008

Dull, terrible graphics (PS1 is better!). If this is the best a Wii can do then mine is going back on ebay. Very disappointed.

Best Wii Release so far!

Neil Evans from London, England, 25th April, 2007

When I put my name down on the extremly long list to get a Wii I already knew there was one game I had to get. That Game was THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS. After weeks of horrible wait I finally got my Wii and a copy of ZELDA. As soon as I started the game up I knew it was worth the wait. From the moment you start plaing ZELDA looks a feels amazing. The Wii remote is perfect for ZELDAS movements allowing you to slash with your sword, go fishing and even sumo wrestle all with the greatest of ease. Another great addition to this new ZELDA adventure is that at times Link is transformed into a wolf and you have to play the game as an animal. All of the controls for the wolf charater corrispond brilliantly to Links controls so there is no need to learn a new system. As I am still only part way through the game I cannot comment on all of it (I belive though there is still a huge amount more for me to discover) but what I haved played so far is superb. If you like ZELDA games or are a fan of RPG in general then THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TWILIGHT PRINCESS should be your first stop on the Wii.

Best game ever played - anywhere

Alexander Johnson from derbyshire, 25th July, 2007

I did not get my wii console for use as a 'proper' games console. Mainly for the bowling tennis etc that people who have never touched a video game in thei lives can and do play. But zelda is just incredible. The sheer level of detail in the world is amazing. Rivers have fish (which you can catch) frogs, ducks etc. Flowers have insects buzzing round then. Pretty much everything is interactive from the vegetation and scenery to the npc characters. There are so many different ways to play the game that I can't see anyone not enjoying it. You can blast through the main quest, or (as I'm doing) meander around the world finding all the secret areas and side quests. The lighting system deserves a review all it's own. No other game I've ever seen on any platform has such realistic and varied light sourcing. Everything fro the mist rising from the lake when it's warmed by the morning sun, to the underwater, blizzard, rain, dust lighting is perfect. I've seen rpg games on ps3 and xbox 360. And they just don't compare. The action in zelda is smoother, faster and the whole game is just so amazingly good looking you som, etimes just find yourself standing still and looking around for the sheer hell of it. I've played a lot of rpg games in my time - but this is far anaaway the best. I'd even place it above the original unreal - the first game to have unlimited sky. You never get bored. Just when you think you have a handle on the plot something else happens and you go off on another tangent. From the wolf sections (complete with wolf senses) through the horse back battles - where you will find yourself leaning across the room to get the bloody orc on the big pig wit your sword. The more you play this game the better it gets. And the world is huge. Everythime I think I've got every conceivable gadget going - something else turns up and open up another level of the game. Even the throw away parts are awesome. the fishing - both float and spinner, are so much better than any other fishing sim I've ever seen, it's unreal. I have literally just spent hours paddling my canoe round the lake in the pursuit of the elusive hylian loach. And every body of water I come to get's fished. If you only ever have 2 games for your wii. then sports and zelda are all you'll ever need.

The reason to get the Wii

A Customer from London, 13th January, 2010

This game is why I bought the wii when it first came out. I've played every Zelda game, and obviously had to get this one as well. The graphics are a bit disappointing, but the puzzles are more complicated then previous versions, and it's much darker as well. A must game for any Zelda fan!

Wii Tastic!

TrimmTrabb from , 20th September, 2009

While SEGA had the graphics Nintendo always had gameplay! The Original Zelda games on the Nintendo Entertainment System where difficult and most importantly playable. This new version for the wii is no exception. U take on the legendary role of llink, a young boy with a green hat (the green hat of the chosen one). The wii remote is your sword and your nunchuk is your sheild, ive always been able to immerse myself in these games but the wii remote makes you link for the entirity of the game! Despite what other say the cut scenes make the game more enjoyable and the twisting plot makes it practically impossible to turn off!! BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not my cup of tea.

Stales89JSM from from Nottingham, 20th July, 2009

I normally hate fantasy games, especially ones that take you hours to get into before you start playing properly, and so far... I still do. I thought I'd give this one a go because a mate of mine told me it's the best Zelda game out, and if that is the case... I really don't want to play any other Zelda game thanks. However that is just my opinion, If I'm going to review this properly I am going to take into account the way you play from other peoples views. To start with, I like the fact you can use nunchuck to play the game. Quite a few wii games don't use this and it is an overlooked accessory. The attacking system is fun, move the wii remote and nunchuck in different ways to attack, and you can also use them in combination with buttons for different attacks. The slingshot is a point at your tv and aim kinda thing, and is fun to do. The thing that let this game down for me personally was that it's a puzzle fantasy game. I'm crap at puzzles and takes me hours to work them out, but the Zelda ones give you no clues at all, making it even harder. This was the first thing to put me off. Also there is a lot of dialogue. I can assure you that you will be stuck in speech and cutscenes longer than gameplay because it's a story game kinda thing. Anyway this game isn't for me. If you like fantasy style, role playing game, then this is for you. If you like action games and first person shooters, this ISN'T for you. Stales89 Over and out!

Fabulous

colaroid from , 13th July, 2009

This is probably the best game I have ever played. Plenty of game to get through and the puzzles are very varied. The graphics are brilliant considering the wii isn't about graphics but as always with nintendo gameplay is what matters. Perfect-but buy don't rent!
