After This Life
A Customer from cambridge, england, 2nd March, 2007
After enjoying the two series of nineties based This life, I felt rather excited about the prospect of seeing the reunion of the key characters back together again. However unfortunately it seemed to amass a smell of Stilton pretty much from the start, which I believe was a real shame as the series was at the time reasonably cutting edge and seemed to age rather well when BBC2 decided to air all of the episodes in the lead up to Christmas 2006. Should have left it alone when it was on a high....

Dont Bother.....

A cult series in the 90s, and with the perpetual wish they would make another few episodes I was eagerly looking forward to this, especially as I had managed to record the wrong programme when it was originally aired.....! Having spent a Saturday evening watching it, how I wish both I and the makers had not bothered! The characters had lost their depth; everything you either loved or loathed about them had gone, and where was Warrens 'Welsh-ness'?? Remember the original sereis for what it was and how it ended, with that fabulous right-hook ending, don't bother with this additional hour and a half!
Very Bad

This edition tries to hard to recreate the original & echoes my own inner believes that once you move on you should stay moved on. It was awful watching this. I struggled throughout especially as I only days before and finished watching series 2 from the original, which was just outstanding.
thoughtful ending to a great series

I thought the poor reviews were unfair. The characters have developed and matured in a thoughtful and insightful way. The dynamics of their relationships have likewise matured. If you enjoyed the series, this movie is a definite must.
Not as bad as I'd feared...! (Contains spoilers!!)

Having read other opinions, I was fearing the worst but, having set the bar low, I actually found this reasonably entertaining. I was a big fan first time around and the thought of cathching up with the guys 10 years on (and I'M 10 years older too!) too much to resist. I'm not quite sure what the purpose of Miles's asian wife was. She appeared to be simply annoying and it was with too much relief that she exited. I mean, as soon as Anna was seen to be demanding sperm we knew what was going to happen. The big question that was left nanswered was what happened after Milley thumped the annoying Rachael at the wedding reception. was she arrested, did Rachael sue her, did Milley get the sack? These questions were avoided. I wonder if ther will be a This Life +20?

This special 'catch-up' episode is something the original series creator should be utterly ashamed of. The story was totally ridiculous and full of holes. The cast seemed to have forgotten how to play the characters and instead they have been allowed to become really irritating and totally unlike anything we used to know and love. The people that were missing (Ferdy, O' Donnell, Kira and Jo) were all big omissions and Miles having abandoned his practice of law and marrying the woman he did was so implausible as to be laughable. That girl walking around with the camera was just annoying and gave a very weak excuse to get the characters to talk to the camera, and each other, about themselves in the third person - as if the situation wasn't already stretching the limits of natural character development and logic! So this un-special 'special' has taken everything that felt genuine and natural about the original 2 series and totally discarded them. Now they are all rather annoying people that made it hard for me to remember why I ever cared about them in the first place. If you loved This Life, go back to and stick with the original 2 brilliant series and ignore the fact that this badly designed piece of rubbish ever got made.
