What happens when you want to go to college but no school accepts you? If you're Bartleby Gaines (Justin Long), you invent a fictitious university and create your own destiny. ACCEPTED follows the Ferris Bueller-esque Bartleby as he and his assembled crew of college rejects dupe the world by building the South Harmon Institute of Technology from scratch. There's his nerdy friend Sherman Schrader (Jonah Hill), who is actually enrolled in the well-established Harmon College across the way but who helps Bartleby with the logistics; the hyper-smart Rory (Maria Thayer), who put all her eggs into one basket and got rejected by her dream Ivy League school; Hands (Columbus Short), a football player who lost his scholarship when he blew out his knee; Glen (Adam Herschman), a former convenience store employee who is about as dumb as they come; and, finally, Uncle Ben (Lewis Black), a former academic who gets talked into become the makeshift school's dean when he gets fired from his latest job selling sneakers at the mall. What begins as an innocent ploy to make his parents happy quickly spirals out of control when Bartleby realises that several hundred kids have shown up for orientation. As he digs himself into a deeper and more irrevocable hole, something strange happens: Bartleby realises that he's actually onto something. Steve Pink's ACCEPTED is a light-hearted comedy that has its heart in the right place.

...into the dire film category

Mbub from Westbury, Wilts, 30th September, 2007

A kid doesn't get into college, so he decides to open up his own and ends up accepting all types of no-hopers. Although this film is some-what original in its storyline, its fails babdly when it comes to laughs and the acting. This is something that you might see on a weekday evening on MTV. Not good

Accepted....A+ movie!

A Customer from North London, 7th October, 2006

A really enjoyable film to watch and not just for teenagers. It sends the message home that we are all sheep, following a set of rules that society sets out for us on how we should our lives. The movie celebrates individuality and looks at what education would be like if people were urged to get in touch with their passions and creativity. Highly recommended!

Total genius

Joe Hurry from Brighton, UK, 7th February, 2007

I absolutely loved this film and have watched it as many as 10 times now cos' I enjoyed it so much. Brilliant message, exposing the indoctrination of our youth and the importance of individuality. Very sharp, witty writing and gripping storyline. You like all the characters and there's so many brilliant moments you'll miss them when it's over.

Great film

A Customer from England, 8th February, 2010

If you're a fan of 'Superbad' and 'American Pie' then this is definately a film to rent. Neither a crass or crude as those, it's still a great, fun film to watch with some friends when you've nothing else better to do. Definately one of the better teen films to come out in the last five years.

A less than average look at college life

VIDEOMONSTER from , 22nd August, 2009

I had waited for this one movie, a long time. Unfortunately I perhaps should have kept waiting. This is a typical American college movie, with the twist of getting the central character to create a university. The movie itself offers the same old college cliches such as a geek, a jock and the fat kid. It also has the love interest who will eventually get together with the geek. The silly end twist leaves this movie feeling very hollow. The movie itself has some good moments, with Jonah Hill in pre-Superbad mode putting a fine perfomance. Justin Long is likeable as the teenager who you can relate with. In the end a decent night in if you aren't expecting a masterpiece.

Good fun

A Customer from Birmingham, 14th August, 2009

Opposing to the many whom believe this movie being an 'against the system' type of movie and attitude. I believe this film portrays excellently the 'system' in question and how preposterous it truly is. The funny parts in the movie are in fact funny because they speak the truth about the world around us today. Anyone who finds this movie to be unrealistic is simply denying the self evident truths about life. And that is to learn what you enjoy. That is what college should be about.
