In 2004, a low-budget horror film about a man who put people with moral failings into grisly, murderous situations became a huge hit. In 2005, the sequel scored again, upping the body count and the terror. In 2006, the franchise continued, with plenty of gore as well as an emotional story line that delved into the psychological makeup of the main characters. As SAW II concluded, Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) was dying. But that doesn't mean his penchant for playing games of torture and violence is ending. In SAW 3, the murders start occurring again, and Kerry (Dina Meyer) is back on the case, although she thinks this time it might be the work of a copycat. She's only partly right: Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the only victim to have survived both movies, has joined Jigsaw as his apprentice, leading the way through a terrifying game involving Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), a doctor in an unhappy marriage, and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen), a distraught man who is having trouble getting over the loss of his son (Stefan Georgiou) at the hands of a drunk driver. Amanda has captured Lynn and placed her in a neck brace that is linked to Jigsaw's heart monitor; she must keep Jigsaw alive or else the brace will explode. Meanwhile, Jeff is sent on a dangerous journey on which he faces all the people involved in the light penalty his boy's killer received--and it is up to him whether he will seek vengeance or offer forgiveness. Helmed by SAW II director Darren Lynn Bousman and written by original SAW screenwriter and star Leigh Whannell (with a story by Whannell and SAW director James Wan), SAW 3 is an intricately designed, gruesome thriller with a hard-driving soundtrack featuring songs by Slayer, Helmet, and All that Remains.

For Saw fans!!!

JayKay from , 31st December, 2006

Jigsaw is on his deathbed and he is depending on his next victim to save him. However she, a surgeon from the local hospital, has got other problems her husband is being played. Will he survive and will Jigsaw die??? This is a great film but not as good as Saw 1 or 2 However it is a real must if you are a fan

Disappointing

HyperMediocrity from from Bristol, 6th March, 2007

After the ingenious Saw, and the breakneck Saw 2, comes Saw 3. Following the seperate story strands of Doctor Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), who must keep a dying Jigsaw alive, and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen), who is trying to avenge his son's death, the film is guilty of severely diminishing returns. The attempts to inject this series with some 'human drama' falls flat with a collection of unlikeable and stupid characters, and the pacing is flabby. The gore, which used to be inventive and fresh, is now just nasty and gratuitous (the chest scene being a particular lowlight.) The tension that made the first film so good is nowhere to be seen, with the film providing none of the shocks and jumps of say, the camera flash scene of Saw. Instead we are 'treated' to a series of genuinely repulsive torture traps, each one more revolting than the last. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the original, and even quite enjoy the second, but this just left a nasty taste in my mouth. The final scenes wrap the series up relatively cleanly, and I would like to say that this was the end of this rapidly decaying franchise, but with Saw 4 already in development for an October release, I think Jigsaw will be playing games with us for the forseeable future. Get ready for a lot more blood...

Bore 3

Ultracritic from at home, 20th March, 2007

Well, what a suprise. Lets make another horror film add in some pointless shock scenes and then we'll have 60 mins for a story. If you think the secound encounter was worse than the first, the third is much worse. A typical, what seems to be, lets cash in on the success of a good successful first film, trash.

I Saw better

Waterboy from from Hertfordshire, 1st April, 2007

Hmm, maybe I missed something in Saw 2, but why is one of Jigsaw's victims helping him and being even more sadistic than he is? This lacks the originality of the first film, sequels usually do, the contrived methods of killing have become a bore, but it did keep me watching to the end. If you have seen Saw 1 and 2 you may as well complete the series, but do we really need Saw 4?

Keeps getting better

olliemyers from , 28th February, 2010

Excellent. I don't care if they are lower budget than normal films, the storylines just get better and the gore gets even worse. Love it. Can't wait to watch Saw 4.

nowhere near as good as I and II

A Customer from London, 28th February, 2010

I was becoming a fan of the Saw series after enjoying the twists and turns of the first two movies... however this one failed to live up to the quality of its predecessors and the 'big twist' was very unsatisfactory... I think this may end my interest in the franchise and i will return to the quality horror of the Japanese films who always do it best..

where's the saw?

Martin Webster from SW England, 19th February, 2010

I & II were better & although the main villain appears, he's hardly the same as earlier. Disappointing overall & I won't be renting 4, 5 or 6

Glad i saw!

A Customer from Sheffield,England, 14th February, 2010

Enjoyed this film. Seen the first 2 and this was just as good. Even if there was no story to these films (which isn't the case here) they're still worth watching just for the fiendish traps or games JIGSAW comes up with.
