HD brings the oil to life

Oh thank-you jesus for HD.... First time i saw this film it was grainy and pirate. To go from that to HD was mind blowing, although this film is not the 'best' to demonstrate HD, it certainly made it better for me to watch. The oil scenes and the explosions were out of this world, and the whole HD 'thing' is just so bleeding edge at the moment it feels great to watch. The film itself is great, but check the dvd reviews for more comprehensive feedback about the film itself. If you are debating over HD, just go get it, its amazing. That or blu ray, both the same, but blu ray more titles. Have fun. Oh and a good sound system really brings this to life.

Full Kevlar Jacket

It's worth making the comparison with Full Metal Jacket, because they tick some of the same boxes in the first part of the film, before Jarhead takes it's own course in the second part and becomes a 'lack of war' film, to coin a phrase. The negative effects of army life, depression & boredom are teased out and mixed with enough goofy humour to keep it interesting. The two main leads are good, with Jake G. being particularly believable. The desert looks believably hot and harshly bright in HD - think of the Omar Sharif scene in 'Lawrence of Arabia' updated to HD. It looked made for widescreen. I'm not sure what else HD really adds to to it - I doubt that being able to see hairs or spots on actors heads adds significantly to the HD experience. It didn't for me, but then that's not what you'd rent Jarhead for. Perhaps a bit serious or heavy for some, but definitely worthwhile for anyone who's Ok with that.
