Subject deserved better...

PaulaWestwood from , 5th February, 2007

Though essentially a fictionalised piece surrounding the hours up to the assassination of Robert F Kennedy, this is is a frustratingly bitty piece that, rather than making an important piece of modern history more interesting, is diluted by so many diverse stories, it loses your concentration and interest. You can see the intentions of the story were right, but it just never once takes off. One oddity that still springs to my mind - despite the USA having more heads of state assassinated than any other country in the world, at age 18 you can get a shotgun or rifle (not handgun) in the USA, but you can't drink until 21... Is this the wrong way round or is it me... let 'em get drunk at 18 - but not shoot anyone until they are over 21.. now that makes more sense.! oh well.. rant over... back to the film, it is more or less like a US TV series and perhaps should have been, as a film it isn't too much, and not really worth 2 hours of your time to sit through.

Bobby

Laff from from Winchester, 13th November, 2007

An appalling soap opera using the backdrop of Bobby Kennedy's assassination in a hotel as the pretexct for the corniest melodrama that I can remember.

Moving tribute

A Customer from London, 2nd May, 2007

I found this one of the most moving cinema experiences of my life. Admittedly I am a bit of a Kennedy-phile, but I think that it's crucial to remember in today's world that sometimes politicians can be figures of inspiration. Especially poignant in the light of the recent Virginia shootings, and one of the all time great songs in the soundtrack- the Sound of Silence.

I found this film very inspiring. It took a little while to get into it but then i found myself almost crying at the end as i had got really into it. Wow, it was great and educational.

Overcooked

MrMuse from , 26th February, 2010

Despite having enough 'A' list celebs to repopulate the Titanic Bobby fails to stay afloat in much the same way as the legendary 'unsinkable' liner. The film attempts to portray not just the events leading to the death of Robert Kennedy but also the cultural rebellion taking place in America at the time. It is a shame, then, that with such a vivid tapestry with which to work it turns out to be a case of having bitten off more than it can chew. For in the inclusion of such a wide spectrum it creates an over-long mish mash of a film that leads viewers away from the subject matter and reduces them to an excercise in star spotting. This said, it is not a complete failure and the acting talent manages to keep it afloat momentarily whilst, ultimately, weighing it down. The use of actual footage rather than yet another big name actor for Bobby himself is certainly a bold and laudible manouver and the individual performances are as good as one might expect for the most part. Yet it seems to me that in many ways the film is afraid of its own subject matter and its closeness to the heart of many of its prospective viewers. As a non-American viewer the film just left me with the feeling that I'm tired of seeing this kind of navel gazing coming from a place that seems to constantly brood over its own ideals through its past whilst doing very little to acchieve them in the present. Bobby and its huge cast create a hope for something greater in much the same way that Kennedy did. Sadly, the film was never going to be able to deliver on the promise created by its own over-casting.

Atmospheric

A Customer from Fife, 18th February, 2010

I enjoyed this film however I felt the title was a misnomer. I expected much more about the lead up to the assination of Bobby Kennedy rather than stories about and interaction between characters who were in the hotel where it happened.

dull and confusing

A Customer from kent, 1st February, 2010

if you have something, anything better to do than watch this film do it. acting was lame plot confusing, very very dull. didnt care enough to see the ending which is a first for me. (and lets face it we all know how it ends anyway.)
