John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe) is a high school basketball star dating three different girls at the same time: the activist vegan (Sophia Bush), the over-achieving blonde journalist (Arielle Kebbel), and the sassy cheerleading squad captain (Ashanti). They all find out about each other and with the help of the shy new girl in school, Kate (Brittany Snow), they plot a devious revenge. After various other plots fail (such as spiking his protein powder with estrogen), the girls decide to combine their knowledge to make Kate into the perfect seduction machine and break Tucker's heart. In classic DANGEROUS LIAISONS/CRUEL INTENTIONS style, Kate becomes the talk of the school, but may end up becoming everything she used to hate. It's an amalgam of patented teen comedy formulas, but director Betty Thomas (BRING IT ON, 28 DAYS) keeps the story jumping along in fine order: no pop song montages of trying on different outfits, no soap opera angst and no parental moralising. It's all chocolate, bra-cams, basketball games, food fights, and a wealth of quotable put-downs. Metcalfe makes a perfect Tucker, a character who--to the movie's credit--is not as bad as all that. Penn Bagdley quietly steals some scenes as John's less popular brother, a music snob/slacker who falls for Kate while assisting her in science experiments. Jenny McCarthy is in fine form as Kate's hot mum, cursed with her own weakness for smooth talking men.

SUPERB!

A Customer from North London, 21st August, 2006

A really entertaining, feel good flick for the girls, full of great scenes and lots of eye candy (Jesse Metcalfe plays Tucker and is totally yummy, but for me it had to be his brother in the movie who is to die for sexy with a deep, crisp sexy voice that will make any girl's little heart melt). Girls see this movie! I had a great time watching it, lots of funny scenes, good soundtrack, interesting enough(even though predictable)plot....What more could a girl ask for?

Sorry, but it's not just John Tucker that should shuffle off...

A Customer from Mid Glamorgan, South Wales, 31st October, 2006

Maybe it's just that I'm getting a bit older, and not in the intended audience for this film, but when I asked a friend to go and see John Tucker Must Die in the cinema, I had the undying urge to apologise every 5 minutes. I was actually looking forward to seeing a chick flick with no delusions of grandeur and what I experienced was a formulaic plot at best; three girlfriends are poles apart, the obligatory line up of blonde, brunette and token black girl, all present and correct; cue elaborate montage of girls bonding over hatred of guy and retaliation plot you can see the culmination of before the girls on screen can even come up with it. Appalling dialogue that made me cringe constantly and the stereotypical jock character Jesse Metcalfe plays (almost an insult to the guy after his Wisteria Lane incarnation) felt stilted, awkward and a waste of potentially good actors. Unless you’re in your teens or incredibly undemanding of your films, my advice is to steer clear of this one. I can handle films that are complete fluff, but this film gives fluff a bad name…

Appauling

Craig Young from Reading, 16th March, 2007

This film was yet another cliched teen flick that to be frank, was an insult to my intelligence, and a waste of my time. I only managed to watch half the film due to the jailbait girls on show.

JOhn Tucker must come to my House!

A Customer from West Yorks, 22nd February, 2007

I loved this film, I have been aching for a decent chick flick for ages, films like 'Just My luck' and 'Shes the Man' just didn't cut it for me...but this? I actually laughed out loud to several parts in the film. Defo a girls night in, pyjamas, face masks, popcorn the lot!

Just another teen flick

VIDEOMONSTER from , 29th December, 2009

This was a surprisingly enjoyable watch. To be honest it's not that great there are some decent laughs to be had, and the acting isn't bad. It's just that the air of believability is hard to swallow at times. The film is cheesy, has some good laughs but takes itself a bit too seriously. Not bad but it is typical of the teen genre, there are worse films out there. Watch if you liked mean girls, and have nothing better to watch.

Feel-good fun

A Customer from Darlington, 23rd November, 2009

If you want a girls night in with cheesy chick flicks then this is a must. Chick flicks have their place in the movie biz and rightly so because sometimes you just wanna sit back, relax and escape!! John Tucker Must Die is perfect for that all important 'me time'. So get the popcorn, wine or chocolate (or all of them!) and enjoy!
