Emperor penguins are born to sing. All except young Mumble, who was born to dance... tap dance. Such un-penguin-like behaviour eventually gets Mumble kicked out of Emperor Land and into the big cold world. Joined by his Adelie Amigos and an all-knowing Rockhopper penguin names Lovelace, Mumble embarks on an epic journey and ultimately proves that by being true to yourself, you can make all the difference in the world.

I'm sorry.......

JediSi from , 15th September, 2007

But I just don't get it. It took me five attempts to watch this film all the way through simply because it is such hard work. I can't believe so many people love it. OK, the musical score is flawless, but that's it. The characters are simply not loveable and I cannot sympathise with them at all. The plot is boring, I prayed that Mumble would get devoured in the most horrific way possible and quickly, so that I could watch something more entertaining. The kids loved this, but I fail to see why. It's just penguin, penguin, penguin, penguin, penguin. I would rather eat worms than watch this again.

Movies about Penguins.. this takes the biscuit

PaulaWestwood from , 10th December, 2006

Okay the pun is intented, but this is one of THE most wonderfully animated films you could possibly hope to see. The animation is quite simply stunning. As a very very minor drawback, it is a bit long to sit the youngest children through without them getting fidgety, but the film does really appeal to all. What in theory should be a fairly thin story about Mumble, an Emperor Penguin that can't communicate by song as the breed do, but can dance, stretches out really really well and is as funny as any animation you might see. There are some relevant educational points and a good dusting of familiar songs (both good adaptations and comical ones) thrown into the mix. If you are fishing for a very clever and entertaining family movie - don't put this on ice - it is a real must see .

Longwinded

A Customer from England, 3rd January, 2007

This is a beautifully animated film, but one which relies too much on the music and has a confused storyline. The film wanders from one scene to another with no real sense of continuity, the scenes didn’t seem to fit together and by the end I was irritated and bored. We found ourselves looking at our watches after an hour and I have never seen so many children fidgeting and getting their parents to accompany them to the toilet / pop-corn stands part way through a film. For adults there are lots of familiar songs to enjoy, unless you are sensitive to covers and remixes, in which case you will need to cover your ears as the throngs of penguin dance and sway their way through versions of classics from Queen, Grandmaster Flash, Elvis and even the Beatles. Robin Williams is excellent in his two roles, but I wondered whether younger viewers were having the same trouble I was having understanding much of the fast-paced dialogue which was in strong South American accents. The story starts off with the message that it is best to be yourself, whatever your talents are, but ends up preaching in a heavy handed and lengthy way on over-fishing in the Antarctic. Weird and unsatisfying.

Happy Clappy Penguins! Oh Dear!

Crookshanks from , 4th March, 2010

I was unsure of watching this film and after sitting through it can confirm that I have wasted some of my life away. Harsh, I know, but it doesn't get more ridiculous than this! My rating reflects only the animation, which was amazing, especially the underwater shots. The plot was basic, easy to follow. However, I never really connected with the characters, felt sorry for them or really cared what happened to them. I nearly switched it off after the first 15 minutes, but I don't like to leave a film part way through so had to watch it to the end. At times I felt it hard to understand what some of the characters were saying, as the accents were quite strong, still what I did make out was some funny lines amongst all the soppiness! I'm sure kids would like this film but it just doesn't match up to it's contemporaries.

Not so happy

A Customer from Bingley, West Yorkshire, 21st February, 2010

I was really excited about seeing this film because the trailers for it at the cinema looked funny. I was really disappointed with the story. It was long and drawn out, the comedy was non-existant and boring to watch. I would not recommend this to anybody, even kiddies.
