Rubbish

Steven Wilkins from Brighton, 13th March, 2007

Sentinel...a slick American political thriller, based around the Secret Service and the protection of the American President. When top agent (Douglas)is framed for an inside plot to assainate the president, He uses his elite training to avert arrest and sets out to clear his name and find the real villains behind the plot. Hot in pursuit is his old friend and ex protege student (Sutherland) teamed with his new hotshot rookie and token eye candy played by Eva longoria of Desperate housewives fame. Sentinel starts off well enough. It offers a nice perspective on how the secret service work, and feels authentic. It's stylishly filmed and grips from the off. You can sense unrest and feel the tension as the secret service work relentlessy around the president to ensure his safety, and avert any potential danger. Despite all this,it still wreaks of other films in it's genre.Think 24 series 1 or The Fugitive, and your not far off, Albeit it is not in the same league as the afforementioned. It quickly spirals into a VERY predictable story. The tension is all too soon lost, and there are no twists or turns to even make it slightly original or interesting. Sutherland is underused and is wasted in this roll. The 'baddies' are non-descript, typecast, cut and paste from any relatively similar film. The ending is diabolical and you will feel very 'is that it?' once the credits roll. The whole thing feels patchy and loses it's direction half way through. It all starts so stylishly well, and could have been something special, but sadly this effort will be all to quickly forgotten. Roll on 24 the movie...

awful, cleche of a film, utter rubbish

paul manning from sheffield England., 21st September, 2007

I have only just finished watching the 'sentinel', I couldn't wait to get to the computer to leave a review about it. Right here I go! Its the worse film i've ever seen in my life, and i've seen literally thousands of movies, this one takes the mouldy mackeroon! It's so full of cleche's it made my stomach turn eg. 'lets circle the wagons', 'go!go!go!, says the occupant of the...and here's another one... 'motercade, vehicle'. I could go on and on. But really it was embarrassing to get through. Keifer Suderland was trying so hard to appear cool, what with that whisper like voice! Michael Douglas was trying his best to appear wooden and trully succeeded! Just to think how large the good old USA of A is! how on earth does everybody in law enforcement always seem to know each other? Or some X wife is now the property of the other protaganist, and he's just got to get even with him! But you know somehow their gonna shake on it in the end, buddy to buddy! Can't someone in hollywood come up with something a little less cosy? The plot was the same old rubbish, the president's life is in real danger and the good shots aim straight and the baddies, with automatic weapons, can't hit a barn door at 3 inches! This film really made me angry! Every thing that is bad about american old hat cliched movies is in this one. If I were allowed to swear writing this review, I tell you, I would! .....Bug-ger it I will! The Sentinel is nothing but a bucket of shi-te. I wish I had the chance to make a movie, because I know that I could do better than this bunkum! Give me the 'usual suspects' any time, at least it's got a story line, this has'nt! Even the false 'tense' film score was trying it's best to stir some excitment in us, but it made me laugh and snigger! if you've got ninety minutes to spare, I beg you, please don't waste it on this! no no no NO! FOR GOD'S SAKE NO AGAIN!

The Sentinel

Michael Douglas stars as an FBI agent who gets set-up. This was all very familiar ground for Micahel Douglas, playing another govenment figure who has to prove his innocence. Its an ok film, but it would never break any box-office records. Seen it all before and has been done better.

It had me gripped!!!

Cornetto from , 19th March, 2007

Yeah it's a standard thriller, but acting from Kim Basinger, Kiefer Sutherland and Eva Longoria was good. In particular Michael Douglas was great. I'd like to see Michael Douglas in a few more thrillers like this one and like Don't say a word film in 2001. I've watched it a few times now and I personally enjoyed it.

Dry White

ZiggyTheKid from , 16th March, 2010

A straight forward political thriller with nothing new to offer in the genre; a stiff cast is left high and dry by the plodding narrative and unoriginal ending.

Good enough to relax

Storyline is tried and tested in various forms before but at least it will still keep you entertained. Hopefully you will not feel cheated of your time. Good for relaxation.

"The Sentinel"

polwie from , 1st February, 2010

I have chosen the film because of M.Douglas but I am disappointed. The plot is so simple that the film becomes predictable. An honest agent (M.Douglas) from Secret Service is a bodyguard of ' First Lady' and has an affair with her.The question is:what for? It does not make the film more interesting. He is also accused of murdering another agent. Then, an investigation, saving the president's life.... And nothing surprising. It is a good film if you have to do any paper work.
'In the Line of Fire' (1993) with C.Eastwood, J.Malkovich and R.Russo is definitely better.
Strongly recommended if you are busy and like M.Douglas. Otherwise, you will feel bored.

A good movie like in the time

A Customer from London, 25th January, 2010

I really enjoyed this movie. The actors, and there were many famous ones, were really good, especially Micheal Douglas, Kiefer Sutherland and Kim Basinger. This movie is like a good movie from the 90s: good plot, catchy and no need for lots of special effects. I would recommend this movie, although I was not totally satisfied with the end.
