MIAMI VICE follows the violent adventures of Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Tubbs (Jamie Foxx). With Miami at the centre of a global drug trade, their job of stopping illegal trafficking is hard and dangerous work, yet they are also rewarded with gorgeous girls and local celebrity. But their access to wealth, drugs, and power is tempting, and both men continually struggle with personal demons to stay on the right side of the law. In 1984, director Michael Mann made television--and fashion--history with his action-packed, neon-lit crime series, MIAMI VICE. The series was a hit for five years and became a cultural phenomenon. Now Mann, who has made quite a career for himself in Hollywood, with Oscar-nominated films including ALI, HEAT, and THE INSIDER, updates his small-screen hit for the movie going public, crafting a sparkling, roller-coaster ride of a movie that is perfectly complemented by its bright colours and kinetic movement. From a frenetic opening scene at a nightclub to an undercover infiltration of a South American drug cartel, the action barely lets up. And when Crockett meets the irresistible Isabella (Chinese bombshell Gong Li), the mistress of hotshot drug dealer Jesus Montoya (Luis Tosar), business mixes dangerously with pleasure, on dance floors and between sheets. As he did with the television show, Mann manages to make a guilty pleasure psychologically nuanced and politically charged--eye candy with depth. And despite the mesmerizing cinematography, the actors manage to be as striking as their surroundings, turning in strong, dynamic performances.

Total Film

There's a classy but urgent verve to the scenes with Farrell and Foxx....Foxx is the cooler, more focused partner, while Farrell plays Crockett like a coiled spring

Think twice about Miami Vice

This is a film version of the popular TV series of the same name. For me, this was one of the worst tv to film movies ever made and that inc, Starsky & Hutch. The acting was ok, but the script was so poor, even a fish and chip vendor wouldn't use it to put his grub in. It has short dialogue, shaky camera work and a dark moody atmosphere, all very wrong wrong wrong. Do yourself a favour and re-watch the TV series, even Don Johnsons acting was better than this.

Miami W*nk

Matt Cusack from London, England, 3rd April, 2007

Really poor film - about 2 1/2 hours of your life you'll never get back!! Most of the dialogue was impossible to understand due to everyone needing to mumble and the amount of 'cop' language used meant that the bits you could hear weren't worth listening to anyway. Added to the paper thin plot, uninspiring characters and lack of chemistry between pretty much everyone there was also Colin Farrells hair to contend with. Complete rubbish - don't waste your time!!

Abysmal

Lefty from , 22nd May, 2007

I have watched many films. I couldn't watch all of this. No plot, no story, and cliched language that left me numb. Turned off when I was told that the perps were ACU. But what does that mean????

Robbed of 45 minutes

phil from Yorkshire, England, 24th June, 2007

That’s as much as I could take before ejecting the disc. A reprehensible and cynical attempt at cashing in on a bit of nostalgia. The original series concept was tenuous at best – this ‘update’ further exacerbates that feeling with all the actors involved looking equally dismayed and confused as they stumble through the lacklustre plot. Just awful.

Michael Mann is brilliantly cool as always...

StuartMortlake from , 18th January, 2010

Once again Michael Mann has created a film of beautiful style, danger and flair is his unique way. The plot is incredibly fast moving as usual, having the detectives switch early in the movie from one case to another, so dim wits beware (you'll need to listen to what's going on!) Mann creates a feeling of suspense throughout the entire movie as the detectives are dragged deeper undercover into more and more life threatening situations, effectively combined with a great musical score, exciting aircraft and powerboat sequences demonstrating the skill and finance necessary to effectively transport illegal product into the United States. The movie is not routine Hollywood action bulls**t but an exciting portrayl of the dangers of undercover police work.

Miami Vice

A Customer from Haddington, 12th January, 2010

I have to admit that I have never seen the TV series but was extremely shocked to read bad reviews for this movie. This has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen. Not only is Colin Farrell hot in this which I have to mention (not that I rate films on the eye candy but he does have an impact) but this film has amazing action, gripping drama, true romance, raw sex scenes and the most amazingly powerful sound tracks. I never normally watch a film twice but have seen this four times. I don't know what more you could want from a movie. Please do not take notice of bad reviews as you will miss out on a masterpiece.
