Talking cars rediscover the quirky originality of middle America in this inventive animated film from the folks at Pixar (TOY STORY, FINDING NEMO). Owen Wilson does the voice of arrogant rookie racecar Lightning McQueen, who winds up stranded in the small desert town of Radiator Springs on his way west to a big showdown. Sentenced to community service after literally tearing up the road in a high-speed chase, at first all Lightning can think of is getting back to the world of corporate sponsorship and merchandising tie-ins he loves so well. Eventually, however, the eccentric residents of Radiator Springs begin to grow on him, especially the attractive lady Porsche lawyer (Bonnie Hunt) and a rusty old tow-truck (Larry the Cable Guy). There's also a hippie Volkswagen (George Carlin), a low-riding T-bird (Cheech Martin) and Paul Newman as the gruff, curmudgeonly Doc Hudson, the town judge who harbors his own checkered-flag past.

Vrooming good ride

JediSi from , 21st August, 2007

Animation about a race car called Lightning McQueen. On his way to his final race he crashes through Radiator Springs and is forced to repair the damage. Lightning learns about respect and friendship during his unscheduled stay and changes his 'cocky' attitude before being allowed to continue to the deciding race of the Piston Cup. Visually beautiful and characters to fall in love with. Enjoy the ride!

Round the track again.

Rip from Manchester, 10th March, 2007

I believe I first saw this film in the early 1990's, it was called Doc Hollywood and was live action then. The story has been tweaked a little to fit animated cars this time around. Nice characters, good animation

Cars...Cars...& more Cars

Mbub from Westbury, Wilts, 26th June, 2007

This film is about a racing car that gets lost and finds himself in a old town, where he realises what real friendship is. This movie was ok, but a bit long nearly 2 hours, for a cartoon movie. The characters were good, but I can't help always thinking that Owen Wilson has one of the most boring voices in the world, not great for holding your attention. Other than that it was good animation and ok if you have nothing better to do.

fantastic! laughs and i nearly cried.

Tracy Shave from Chelmsford, Essex, 9th August, 2006

I'm not sure where the sense of humour gland has gone for the customer in scotland. talking technically that you can't do that with cars?? how many talking cars do they know??? It is an animation. it is fiction and it is really really good fiction. the story line has everything you could ask for with love, being blinded by success, to the value of friendship, family and morality. I thought this film was amazing and my 4 year old sat through the whole 2 and a bit hours no problem. (and thats saying something!!!). the morals and the journey of this car and where it leads him brought a tear to my eye and i was crying with laughter throughout. I have never read such a unfounded review as that of the scotish customer and i doubt there will be many more like that. As a note - over the hedge is also fantastic and far from tedious. These are kids films!! they are not real! GREAT, FANTASTIC i shall be buying on dvd so that we can watch it over and over again.(and I am 31!)lol

Enjoyable, but not as good as other Pixar films

Asfaloth from , 15th March, 2010

I enjoyed this film, but it wasn't quite as funny as I'd expected, and most of the laughs came as a result of the terribly cheesy lines ('I was living life in the fast lane...' etc)! The good things were that the 'characters' were individual and well thought out (quite a feat, given that they're all cars!) I especially loved Luigi, the little Ferrari-loving Fiat! The 'scenery' was also lovely and it had an interesting little socio-economic message about the impact of bypassing towns! This isn't the best Pixar film by a long way, but if you're in need of a simple, light-hearted, feel-good film, it's definitely worth a watch!
