same old cliche

Sophie from Dorset, 7th February, 2007

Although i found this film very enjoyable - its the same old cliche, a happy ending for all (pretty much) but i do like those hence my rating. I wouldnt class it as a film which you would only watch if u were gay/lesbian, it just involves two women falling in love with each other as part of the story line and shows a great deal of acceptance of the lesbian culture without going overboard on stereotypical things or involving sex scenes to pull more viewers. All in all, an easy going, good watch, with some comedy and a happy but predictable ending.

new heritage

Rehan from , 13th May, 2007

You can't help feeling this film is aimed at foreign audiences who lap up idealisations of 'quirky Englishness' - the odd characters; the predictable, cutesy situations (specially with precocious children); the clipped dialogue; the corny lines; the unrealistically odd-but-glamorous settings; the sweeping panoramas of London from Primrose Hill: it's all a little coffee-commercial. But where it's brave in its way is that the relationship at the centre of the story is gay: it may seem obvious and boring and so-what, but - let's face it - this is not an often-seen theme, nor is it usually handled matter-of-factly, as it is here. So: it may be more than a little toe-curling at times, and about as convincing as the Gold Blend ads, but full marks for extending the boundaries of an existing cliché. (The two female leads are too alike, though - both gorgeous, wide-mouthed and with tumbling locks. But that's a minor gripe.)

Really rubbish

Mary01 from , 25th December, 2007

thought this might be an easy to watch Hollywood film - you know, mindless, etc. but then when it came on I realised it was British. Oh no, means not funny but trying really hard.

Enjoyable RomCom with a twist!

A Customer from Cornwall., 11th August, 2006

This could almost be a Richard Curtis romantic comedy, it's certainly aiming to be. Lena Heady and Piper Perabo play the two girls who fall in love at pretty much first sight, just as Piper is marrying the very charming Matthew Goode. The film has its heart in the right place, and is a nice light comedy that tried to be a mainstream lesbian film, but there are a few flaws. The two actresses met on the set of The Cave, and became friends. Having just watched that, I think they had more chemistry on THAT film. Its a bit less than sparkling here, they look rather awkward frankly. Another problem is that Matthew Goode is just adorable! Its hard to see quite why Piper falls for Lena and dumps him to be honest, and I'm a lesbian myself! However, good comic support from Tony Head, Celia Imrie and Darren Boyd, and its great to see a film tackling a subject like this and having a happy lesbian ending!

Real Life on Film

SSDKENT from , 25th December, 2009

A surprising movie, surprising in that it was much better than I imagined. When it arrived I didn't recall listing it but watched it as there was nothing else lying around to watch. So glad I did as it was a great film and really good fun.

Funny, tear jerking, well worth watching

Vickster29 from , 15th September, 2009

This film made me laugh and it also made me cry, even though I am a lesbian myself I was cryign on behalf of Hector the husband, cos he really shows how much he loves Rachel and makes every effort to continue being Rachel's perfect, one true love, so basically you have to feel sorry for him and he has some very entertaining moments throughout the film. It's rare to find Gay / lesbian films that aren't a basic shagathon, so it's very nice to see a real true love story, with laughter and emotion all packed in and characters who have morals and try to do the right thing and all potential sex scenes are laced with comedy. I have no idea what the rating of this movie is but I would happily class it as a PG (are full on snogs allowed in PG's??!!) So all in all Imagine, me and You is Funny throughout, may move you to tears in places and definitely worth watching if you like romantic comedies!
