Single-minded investigator William Devane obsessively pursues charismatic cult leader Brian Dennehy for whom killing is part of his creed in director Jud Taylor's cliché-ridden drama. The two principals offer a winning mix of decency and menace, lending a certain amount of credibility to an otherwise wayward outing, which also features Dee Wallace Stone who played the mother in ET.
