Wonderful and enchanting..

PaulaWestwood from , 30th January, 2007

The words of Renee Zellweger as Miss Potter say 'There is nothing quite as beautiful as starting a book... as you will not know where it takes you'. In a similar way there is nothing quite as beautiful as being mesmerised by a truly enthralling and purposeful film, that simply oozes charm and warmth. I can't say how lovely this film is and how extremely well it is made and acted. It is magnificent, charming, elegant and just a fantastically good watch. I won't peter rabbit on any longer.... Would I recommend it , you bet I would !

squinty strIkes again!

chimpsky from , 11th May, 2007

Well, i'm genuinely sorry to disagree with the rest of the reviewers here but...it's a shame to see rene zellweger again attempting to play a british woman with her voluminous acting range, i.e. squinting a lot, when there are many British actresses who could have offered much to the role ( Samantha Morton or Emily Watson to name a couple). then there's the historical omissions and skewed emphasis. Beatrix potter was a great woman: a natural scientist and conservationist. Not the sentimental, squinty, 'quirky' (you always get 'quirky 'with Zellweger) dweeb in this film. I dislike the emotional manipulation of filmic sentamentalism because the emotions rarely seem real, the basis of effective acting surely. I am myself a fan of Beatirx Potter's work and life and feel this film not worthy of her. Try the graphic novel 'One Bad Rat' by Bryan Talbot to see potter's life interwoven into a genuinely moving story.

A Beautiful Film

James Waddell from Bristol, UK, 17th January, 2007

Miss Potter is a beautifully made movie which paints for us the story of the somewhat tragic life of Beatrix Potter. The script is wonderful, the story moving and the acting superb. I didn't want the film to end and if you read or have had the books read to you as a child, or eaten your cereal or drunk your juice from a Peter Rappit bowl or mug then you will love this film.

Charming, simply charming

A Customer from MANCHESTER, 15th January, 2007

This is a wonderful little film that bursts with charm and beauty. I went to see it because I was visiting the Lake District at the time and it seemed fitting and it was funny to hear everyone in the cinema murmur with excitement every time a Lake District scene was shown ('that is the view from so-and-so'). It is an enchanting tale and wonderful to discover that the books that I worshipped as a child were created with pure love and devotion by their author. I have read interviews with Beatrix Potter's biographer who complained that the story is not quite accurate but that is all much of a muchness. A charming film about a charming woman who created charming books. You'll feeL that much happier having seen this film.

suprisingly good

A Customer from Middlesex, 25th February, 2010

Renee Zellweger plays the part of Beatrix Potter very well, an interesting true story based on the lady who wrote the Peter Rabbit books, written off by her parents as a hopeless dreamer of wanting to be a childrens author and proving them wrong, not realising her self worth and being a very generous lady with a very important connection to the lake district made this film an enjoyable insight into Beatrixs life.

Enchanting

A Customer from Pershore, 14th February, 2010

An excellent period drama detailing the life of Beatrix Potter who is superbly played by Renee Zellweger. The fllm does not contain a lot of action but is wonderfully shot which contains, in part, the splendid scenery of the lake district. The film is dotted here and there with animations of Beatrix Potter's characters such as 'Peter Rabbit' and 'Jemima the Duck' as Beatrix brings them to life in her mind's eye. The balance of animation, however, is such that it does not deter the film from the story it is trying to portray. 'Miss Potter' is well worth air time for old and young alike.

Imaginative and well acted

A Customer from south of England, 10th February, 2010

Most enjoyable. Renee Z is a delight, not the usual glamorous icon, but an individual, and a very gifted actress. This film was most enjoyable and engaging. Potter fans will love it, and those who don't know her works will be drawn to them. Would watch it again.
