Requiem for a nightmare?

dexedrine from wythenshawe, 15th September, 2006

This is a really good movie to watch if you want to learn about what drugs can do to you, and drug users alike will see the same pattern in there own lives. It follows a mid twenties son, of a mother who goes to see the doctor, and is given the drug Dexedrine.

It catches the fear and paranoia excellent, especially at the end when she really looses it. So many people don’t understand the dangers off a drug like amphetamine and what it can do to you. That’s why it was prohibited.....?

Watch with an open mind, yet imagine being stuck in this hell 24/7

this is my all time favourite movie

Narmour from from Newtownards, 17th April, 2007

I cannot think of enough good things to say about this movie. It is beautiful, dark, harrowing, extremely moving, and a lesson in how films should be made. This film captures the despair and torture of drug addiction, both through the son and his friends, who have seemingly brought their pain upon themselves, and the mother, who is completely unaware of what is happening to her. Whilst both stories are about denial and ignorance of the problem, it is hard to sympathise with the son whereas the mother is such a sad character. Hence the most harrowing aspect of the film is the story of the mother, who blindly trusts that her doctor knows best and she should follow his instructions to the letter. It teaches us about an aspect of Selby Jr's attitude towards authority and how we shouldn't blindly trust those who claim to know best. The contrast between the good times (summer) and bad (winter) is stark and the film thrusts this down your throat. Coupled with an amazingly haunting soundtrack from Clint Mansell, this is one of the very few literary adaptations which truly captures the essence of the original work.

prospective junkies must see

Phil Dawson from UK, 10th March, 2007

This film should be shown at all schools for ages 15 and up. The slide into addiction is an easy one and portrayed well in this movie. I like the progression and the ending ... Well ... It was only a matter of time. Well worth watching and get the kids in to watch too, I don't think they will 'DO' drugs after this. If they do they know what to expect. BROKEN DREAMS

Artistic Nonsense

MadMac from from JHQ, 16th October, 2008

This film is terrible, a film is supposed to entertain. If you need anymore desensitisation to the horrors of the world apart from what you already see on the news then this is for you. We are lead to believe that this film was created to teach us the truth behind drug misuse, frankly if you need a visual aid in this pursuit then there is something seriously wrong with you. Everybody knows drugs destroy lives, why would you choose to watch it in such a graphic way, if you feel so strongly then save your money and put it towards a good anti-drug charity.

Amazing

BadJUJU from from London, 2nd September, 2008

One of the most haunting and sad movies you are ever likely to see. With astonishing performances and stylish direction, it is in my top 10 of all time. Be warned though, it is harrowing, depressing and ultimately bleak - we saw it in a cinema on our holiday in New York and came out the cinema shellshocked and crying!!!
