Radio Times

Kenneth Horne was one of the brightest British radio stars of the 1950s and 1960s. But the stage play that inspired this timid sitcom is a far cry from the inspirationally irreverent comedy that enlivened Beyond Our Ken and Round the Horne. But what do you expect from John Paddy Carstairs, the guiding hand behind several Norman Wisdom misadventures? The flimsy plot sees Sally Ann Howes postpone her wedding to reunite her supposedly caddish father, Guy Rolfe, with mother Nora Swinburne. The cast frantically over-compensates for the weakness of the script, but they succeed only in emphasising its countless shortcomings.

...and fall headlong into a big pile of poop

Mbub from Westbury, Wilts, 5th October, 2007

A guy meets a woman in a cafe and ends up marrying her within a few days. Romance is the key to this movie and so is putting your fingers down your throat and bringing up a bit of sick. This film has been done before and better, although Matthew Perry is the key to this film and makes it ok viewing. Nothing special.

This film is charming and funny in places and is well worth watching, for a romantic comedy.

Great acting but the story could really have been developed, as it was very flimsy in places.

FOOLS RUSH IN

A Customer from Isleworth, 3rd March, 2009

A nice sentimental film with a great soundtrack if you like salsa! The film slightly lacks pace though and some of the character developments could have been stronger, but all round, it was nice to watch. Although the film took more of a nostalgic view of relationships, what makes them work or not and the importance of going with the flow instead of intense planning. So it is not really a film that is a romantic comedy, neither is it a dramatic piece. In some places it is fairly entertaining, but my feeling is that this was not the objective of the film. It was more like watching the life of a friend on screen-quite ordinary. A nice ending though, worth renting out and watching whilst doing your nails! Just don't expect fireworks as if Ben Stiller was the lead it would be a comedy and for more drama and passion someone like Richard Gere would have been good instead of Matthew Perry whose character personality did not shine through.
