Snakes on a Plane

SAI81 from from Tonbridge, 19th August, 2006

Snakes on a Plane is a profoundly moving film, a morality tale for our times. It will become a beloved modern classic... Nope, it's no good, I can't keep a straight face. We all know what this film is, it's Snakes on a Plane, it really is that simple. Like I Was A Teenage Werewolf or Santa Claus Conquers the Martians the title tells you everything you need to know. It's a B-Movie which means it's probably destined to be looked down on by critics, but here's the thing, it's a great B-movie. Much of this is probably down to director David R Ellis who seems to be specialising in this kind of mass entertainment having made Final Destination 2 (the best of the series) and Cellular (which I think I may now have to see). Ellis clearly understands what this film is and he delivers the goods. The snake attacks are nicely done (even if the effects aren't seamless) and there's a nice spread of jumps and more comical moments during the attacks and outside the plane there's a fun cast of characters (Bobby Cannavale as an FBI agent, Todd Louiso as a snake expert) to provide just enough colour to keep things interesting as well as turning the the wheels of the plot. Performance wise Samuel L Jackson plays... oh lets be honest... he plays Samuel L Jackson on a plane but for this that's okay. He shouts at people, he says motherf**ker quite a bit but he's so obviously having so much fun that it is contagious. Yes the famous, fan written, line does get said but it's not the best Jackson line in the film and it's almost worth sitting through the film only to hear his reaction to being told the snakes have been given a pheremone to make them crazed and attack people. The rest of the cast are fine. Julianna Margulies keeps a straight face as the stewardess who helps Jackson and David Kochener has a collection of teriffic wisecracks to work his way through. You should see Snakes on a Plane, it could have been the epitome of all that is wrong with Hollywood but instead it's a teriffic popcorn entertainment and that's about all you can ask of it.

...you like good old fashioned in your face, shock tactic, silly, funny, roller coaster ride cinema where everyone looks like thay are having a great time doing what Hollywood does best (entertainment), then this is for you. If you ONLY like films that change your life and challenge your perception of reality, time and space...GET A LIFE!

All praises to the Playstation!

JediSi from , 7th September, 2007

Snakes on a Plane follows Sean Jones, who witnesses a brutal murder performed by Mob boss Eddie Kim. In order to testify against Eddie Kim in court in Los Angeles, Sean Jones is protected by Agent Flynn and agent Sanders. The three of them occupy first class to ensure Sean's safety, while everyone else who booked first class is forced to economy. But the fun really starts when Eddie Kim's goons release a crate of 450 different kinds of venomous snakes. This film made history with its plain and tacky title. If film producers can make so little effort in picking a title for an action flick then surely that’s reason enough to skip it ! Not really. Intrigue got the better of me and I just had to see if a film with such a lame title was any cop. I left the cinema with the biggest grin, it is so tacky and dire, it’s hilarious. Superb performance from Jackson and some incredible quotes and scenes. Quality entertainment, one of best films of 2006 by far.

WHAT A SHAME

bradrose from , 10th March, 2010

As a massive SLJ fan i was soooooo looking forward to watching this, I thought it would be one of the best films around. OH HOW WRONG I WAS. this film is just simply the biggest load of tripe i have ever had the miss fortunes of watching, theres so many holes in the story line where you sit there and think well how did he know what he'd seen and how did he know where he lives. Then all the crap that happened on the plane got worst. the best part on this film is where the dog gets ate (so funny). There is nothing in this film new or eciting this is purely if you've watched 1 action film you definatly seen everything that happens in this one. I will never recommend this to anyone and conming from someone who's got pretty much every SLJ film on dvd this will never be on my shelve with them. it isnt even good enough to flush down the toilet.

My 17 year-old son loved it, I hated it. He watched it 3 times in 3 days, I couldn't sit through the whole thing.
