Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) has a highly unusual job: she's an interventionist. Parents of young men who are still living at home well into adulthood can hire her to date their sons, which lends the often troubled men the fortitude to strike out on their own. Trip (Matthew McConaughey) seemingly fits this description perfectly; a 35-year-old extreme sports enthusiast and boat salesman, he uses his living situation to quickly end any relationship that becomes too serious. Trip's doting mother (Kathy Bates) and quirky father (former quarterback Terry Bradshaw) hire Paula at their friends' adamant recommendation, and she sets about her tried-and-tested method of winning Trip over...

Director Tom Dey obviously cherishes 30's comedies, and he confidently guides a screenplay that has some of the sass and bit of those oldies through the screwball rapids. Mr. McConaughey and Ms. Parker make well-matched sparring partners

Fails To Launch!!!

AdrianWalsh from , 3rd April, 2006

Went to see this film as there was absolutely nothoing else on, and I wanted a movie where I didn't have to think much. However this 'movie' if I dare call it that was absolutely awful, it was corny, highly predictable, completely forgettable and plain boring. I was sat in the cinema wishing it to finish, I would rather watch paint dry than suffer this. Please do NOT waste your time or your money on this film, it really does fail to launch.

Disappointing

A Customer from England, 9th August, 2006

The ending to this movie was bland, uninspiring and disappointing, considering it had started off with great potential.

Bad casting, is the secret to the failure of this rom com....

A Customer from North London, 23rd April, 2006

The film was entertaining, but the actors look far too old to be believable in the parts (especially the gaunt SJP and overtanned Matthew): also the chemistry between the too wasn't at all convincing. I think the reason the film was a failure in the box office was because they cast the wrong actors. The plot was uneventful but still worth watching on a Sunday afternoon if it's raining outside and you have nothing else to watch. Sarah sweetie, stick to what you're good at: TV!

Predictable but nice

A Customer from Paisley, Scotland, 27th April, 2007

This movie was slated by a lot of the critics, but I honestly don't think it was that bad. Yes, the plot is predictable, and some of the jokes are older than I am, but it's a tried and tested formulae that brings a few smiles to the face. Not a bad flick for brightening a rainy day.

Hilarious!

Vx from from Stockton-on-Tees, 26th February, 2010

Easy to watch, funny and a must for all parents. This storyline seems like a dream come true for every parent out there whose children are over the limit to be still ticking the box on forms 'living with parents.' in this film the parents with a lazy son who have them doing everything for him still get an insight from friends of what life could be like if their son was to fly the nest. With this feeling of desperation they find the real reason behind their friends empty nest that they follow their advice. What follows is a hilarious set of events that not even they could of predicted. By watching this film you'll be laughing and sympathising with all parties involved.

Marvellous Matthew McConoughy

catchitkillit from , 11th December, 2009

In this unbelievable pairing, serial-dating mummy's boy 'Chip' falls for a professional 'love-fake' artiste in the minature form of Sex & The City's SJP, who is actually employed by his parents in a bid to move him out of the family home and shack up with her. I'm sorry, but I can't believe that the delectable M.McConoughy would actually fall for 'Paula', even wanting her when her game's been rumbled! Furthermore, the prevailing message seems to be when you think a guy's about to dump you then spend the night with him! Hat's off to SJP though for not jumping on him in the final scene when he's tied to a chair. Can't say I'd be able to do the same... Kathy Bates plays 'Mom' and she does a marvellous job of dispelling of her v.creepy 'Misery' role!

Very predictable and obvious plot, non of the stars had any on screen chemistry. Boring.
