Pierce Brosnan stars as Julian Noble, a no-longer-noble hit man who spends his free time getting drunk and chasing impossibly young skirts. In Mexico he meets Danny Wright (Greg Kinnear), an average Joe trying to land an important business deal. Jealous of Danny's simple life, Julian becomes friends with the Denver suburbanite, who married his high school sweetheart, Bean (Hope Davis), but lost his young son in a terrible accident. One day at a bullfight, Julian tells Danny what he does for a living, but Danny doesn't believe him until Julian shows him an example of his expertise. But when Julian asks Danny to help him with his next assignment, Danny is dead-set against it, and ready to end their brief friendship. Little does he know that he has not seen the last of the rather unique hit man.

Brilliant Fun even for by a vegetarians standards!

Laura Carter from London, England, 17th March, 2006

Watched this thinking I would hate it, that it would be full of needless bullfights and bloody painful images. This is not the case... thankfully. Nice to see Pierce breaking type cast and not being quite so smooth and suave. The role humanised him a bit after Bond. Not the best film I've seen of late, but good fun, stylish and you could definitely watch a lot worse. Nice twist too - Give it a go...

~ A hitman & a salesman walk into a bar...

morebees from from Derby, 20th April, 2007

A globetrotting, psychologically burned-out executioner (Oh no, don't call him a hitman; he facilitates fatalities =]) and a crestfallen businessman meet in a bar in Mexico City. From this chance encounter blossoms a unique & strangely profound friendship which provokes each to act in ways neither would have imagined possible. There are some hilarious moments in the film. Julian walking across the hotel lobby in nothing but his, rather fetching, black under-crakers a pair of boots is one of many memorable moments. Excellent acting by both Pierce Brosnan & Greg Kinnear, but this has to be Brosnan's best work to date. He's finally escaped his 007 spy persona and has shown us he can do something different; something comical even. Oh & great moustache too. =]

Despite other opinions i thought this film was just okay. Brosnan veers from being quite funny to really hammy and annoying with his tendency to over-act, his accent also goes all over the place. Ultimately the film is let down by having no real plot it just kind of ambles along unsure of whether it's a black comedy, a drama or an action film. It ultimately tries to be all 3 and unfortunately fails.

Great fun, highly watchable

Pierce Brosnan is great in this movie - he exudes sex and seediness in equal measure! Greg Kinnear and Hope Davis provide good support too. It's the most unlikely story of friendship, with some darker than black comic moments. Highly recommend.

An unbelievable performance from the Pierced Brosnon, in a very funny and likeable film. Kinnear is also excellent, rate and enjoy.

A breath of fresh air

A Customer from Grangemouth, 19th November, 2009

This is one of those filmthat id allways wanted to see but because none of my friends wanted to see it i had to wait for it to come out on dvd. finally i got around to renting it and im so angry with myself for not getting it earlier. Pierce is amazing this has to be the best role he has ever played yet. I wasnt to sure that pierce would be able to shake off his bond image for me and play this charater (a drunk, womanizing, hitman without a care in the world for anyone but himself). But he did and does it so very well so much so you warm up to his charater almost instantly. I have to say the run up to the ending isnt the best but by no means does it detract from the overall film. Id highly recomend this film to any one.

sometimes you wonder if you are a sponge absorbing the tripe of the filmworld through rental agencies.I think actors with the ability of the saint should really be a wee bit more choosey about what films they do, this was crap............
