Period film with excellent acting

A Customer from Wiltshire, England, 16th May, 2006

Beautifully shot, excellent acting with all the right people in the leads. Tristan (Marco) is a hero who has been taken under the wing of Rufus Sewell in the days when England was several kingdoms with everyone wanting unity under one King. Except that some are prepared to be underhand about it. Fight scenes are missing the gore of Gladiator and Troy so are probably suitable for younger viewers. Tristan inadvertently falls in love with the betrothed of the King, and nobly struggles to keep it under control. The romance develops gently without explicit scenes, and leaves space between the characters that leaves you empathising. Tension mounts because of impending battle, deception, and the developing love interest, which as you suspect throughout does end in (someones) tears. Rufus Sewell is outstanding throughout, with an understated selfcontrol and inspiring leadership.

Don't fight it

A Customer from London, 21st February, 2007

Alright it's easy to knock this kind of sub-Arthurian stuff, and I was half expecting Tristan to stumble on a heavy metal band when exploring the catacombs, or for all of Isolde's clothes to accidentally fall off (actually they do at one point, when attempting to relieve his hypothermia). But basically it's a beautifully filmed, scored and acted adaptation of an ancient legend that only a curmudgeon could curse. Lots of chivalry and undying devotion for the ladies, lots of fisticuffs for the lads...

Beautifully told tragedy

A Customer from Brighton, 30th November, 2006

This tale pre-dates romeo and juliet and may well have been Shakespeare's inspiration. The story is beautifully told - some violence but in context; subtle and sensitive sex scenes; and NO swearing! What a refreshing change.

Awesome

A Customer from hereford, england, 13th January, 2007

This is an excellent film - excellent acting, beautiful scenery and a great love story. Top that with some great battle scenes and a complete abscence of obscene language and you have one great movie. Highly recommended!

too boring

A Customer from London, 13th February, 2010

actually i found this boring, however the lead is cute....the idea of the movie was interesting...the bloody battles and gore was okay when i forwarded some of the scenes to more exciting ones which were few.

Beautiful. A real classic.

briarrose from from Birmingham, 15th January, 2010

Now i'm not into romantic films, but I went out and brought this to keep after I had rented it. It's a great story, and not a fairy tale happy ending either. But it does really draw you in, and is very convincing historically. The set, the actors, and the storyline all worked well to create a modern day but historial piece (and yes I know that may sound confusing)

It's difficult to review this without going into loads of detail, needless to say that it was a great film, very convincing, and most importantly did NOT contain a cast of jumped up, overpaid actors/actresses pouting and enjoying their importance. I had not heard of any of the cast before but they really did the film justice. Well worth a watch.

Tristan & Isolde

A Customer from Guernsey, 23rd November, 2009

A beautifully told story, with excellent actors and beautiful scenery. Action packed but also a love story. A fantastic film which kept me on the edge of my seat and am going to buy it for my brother for Christmas! Sex scenes maybe too frequent for younger viewers but not too explicit.

Tristan & Isolde

A Customer from Pershore, 3rd November, 2009

I'm not normally into films of this nature. However, realising that a young Kate Winslet was starring in a major role, curiosity got the better of me and I rented it. Thoroughly, enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone interested in medieval movies.
