Even Better than I Remember

A Customer from Nottingham, 30th June, 2006

So many series, both British and American from the early 80s look like period pieces now. Not Robin of Sherwood. Despite being made in 1983, I can watch it and absorb myself in it, without constantly being reminded of it's age. Quite an aacheivement. It presents such an enveloping atmosphere of life in the Middle Ages, and suggests a legend of Robin Hood which is so beautifully constructed it could almost have been true ... The power play betweeen outlaws, the Church, the King, his representatives and others is a fascinating insight into history. The countryside is breathtakingly lovely, and so very English. I think Robin of Sherwood will to me always be The Robin Hood.

Not exactly a Prince of Thieves

Martin from St Helens, England, 2nd April, 2005

I remembered avidly watching this on a Saturday night with my dad, and thoroughly enjoyed it at the time. Having not seen it for years I couldn't resist giving it a go. Whilst the story is decent enough, the acting is certainly a bit wooden by the 'woodsmen' and special effects and stunts very dated. Ray Winstone is his usual feisty self but this is not one of his better roles. I can't remembr what Michael Praed went on to do after 'Robin', but I think he thought he was a better actor than he actually is. However, this was still enjoyable enough, but it's easy to see why there doesn't seem to be any repeats showing anywhere!!

A Great test of time

A Customer from Northampton, England, 22nd July, 2006

I remember this as a good series years ago and watching it again has just confirmed that age has not played tricks with my mind!! This is a really great Robin Hood adventure - although Robin's haircut gives the decade away a bit the rest is timeless. I had forgotton Will Scarlett (One of my favourite actors, Ray Winstone) - He plays his part brilliantly. The rough and tumble, the love interest and the superb scenery are really worth a watch (Robin's pretty cute too)- Top drawer TV!

Classic 80s

A great retelling of the story, but I had forgotten how much mysticism there is in this. It is very much of its era, but good hokum. Ray Winstone's first big break I think.

interesting retelling of traditional ballads of Robin Hood with a mystical twist visually stunning with a very lush green Sherwood, amazing locations such as Alnwick Castle in Northumberland many elements copied in later tv and film versions of the legend
